I record audio in Sound Forge 17 using an XLR mic connected to a Focusrite preamp. I recently upgraded from a much older Windows 7 PC and was using a much older version (6.0b) of Sound Forge.
In the older version of Sound Forge, I could easily choose a seperate input device from the output device, recording from my input mixer and outputting to my sound card. This allowed me to record, monitor my volume levels in real time, but not have to hear my own delayed voice on the headphones. That feature seems to be completely broken in Sound Forge 17. You are now forced to choose the same input and output device, except if you choose Windows Classic Wave Driver as your device which does allow you to choose different inputs and outputs.
However choosing Windows Classic Wave Driver doesn't solve the big issue that I am having: If I want to visually monitor volume levels while recording, there doesn't seem to be a way to prevent my delayed, recorded audio from being sent into my headphones. Between Windows sound settings, Focusrite sound settings, and the sound settings within Sound Forge, I have not seen any setting that will allow me to visually monitor my volume levels without my delayed voice playing in my ears. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
