Why Can't I Play A Burnt DVD in every single DVD Player?

I have been using Magix Movie Edit Pro 16, I hadn't ever burnt a project, but a few months ago I did. I played the DVD in my DVD player and it worked very good. Then I took it to my friends' place and trying to watch it, the same DVD, the DVD player just show a message telling me that it just could not be read. I was trying to find out why it happened if I had already watched it in my place why it could not be played in a different DVD player. I tried it in more than 3 and I did not succeed. What is happening with this, when I thought that every burnt DVD made in magix  is supposedly work in every single DVD player. Please give me some clues.

There could be many reasons for that. Have you burnt a standard DVD or have you exported a DivX file or similar and burnt that to DVD? Have you burnt in NTSC format (you should do so if you're in the US)? Is the bitrate maybe too high? And: Not every DVD player can play every brand of DVD+/-R.

As blubb444 says there are many reasons - to expand on a few:-

The dye used on the DVD can affect universal playback considerably.  I have found a G5 dye based this to be reasonably universal - playing on players which are over 8 years old to modern BD players.

On older players the laser is not as powerful and/or the detector not as sensitive as modern ones - some will only read DVD which use a different dye which is much paler than for example the G5 dye.

Bit rate should not be a problem as this maximum is set in the DVD and BD standards.

The burn speed you have used may cause problems - the faster you burn you get more 'blurring' of the edges of the changes in polarisation of the dye ie where the data changes are.  This can cause problems for some players.
