Oh yes, on my many travels—especially in my youth—I often felt as if I were in a half-dream, from which the many travelers moving this way and that would constantly rouse me. Sometimes my cat, Critter, accompanied me on my journeys. I could deeply empathize with the sounds and the weariness of the travelers moving from place to place.

Oh ja, auf meinen vielen Reisen – besonders in meiner Jugend – fühlte ich mich oft wie in einem Halbtraum, aus dem mich die vielen Reisenden, die sich kreuz und quer bewegten, immer wieder aufrüttelten. Manchmal begleitete mich meine Katze Critter auf meinen Wegen. Ich konnte mich tief in die Geräusche und die Erschöpfung der Reisenden hineinversetzen, die von Ort zu Ort zogen.
