Greetings Magix community,

I am having lots of enjoyment in creating, performing, and producing this new piece 'The Fisherman'.

The music is intended to be a epic ballad as a tribute to fisherman. The music mood and style is what I feel is similar to the sound of theater scores that would have been created and performed in the 50s and early 60s.

There are the ethereal yet powerful vocals, the strings, and a solo basic brass element. Many my feel that such a song would be more gentle and relaxed as fishing on a smooth lake on a sunny day. But this piece is meant to be something similar to the well know story of 'The Old Man And The Sea'. Someone who is facing the great expanse of the sea with determination. And even someone fishing to relax and be with nature would perhaps be imagining being in the great expanse of the sea of life. And to those fisherman who do face the daily challenge and even dangers out at sea to bring us and their families the food on our tables, may this 'The Fisherman' piece be a tribute to them ;)

I created, performed and produced this piece primarily with my own studio resources but I did make use of Magix Music Maker to add a touch of 'silk' with a Magix loop in one of the segments of the song.

Enjoy and my best to you,

Mark ;)

Hello Mark,

speaking of silk, your track is as soft as silk... very beautiful, calm music for relaxing and dreaming. You can imagine the vastness of the sea... but also the loneliness out there. (if you alone ),,,a big❤️ upstairs,,,Very well done

All the best...Bert

"The Fisherman"

The Fisherman is a deeply reflective piece that captures the quiet, meditative essence of life on the water. From the outset, the intermingling of pleasant calliope-tone notes with a soft choir creates a unique sonic texture—one that feels both resigned and serene, perfectly setting the stage for a solitary maritime journey.

The track’s use of dynamics is very effective. The subtle volume swells mimic the rhythmic lapping of waves against a hull, pulling the listener right into the boat with the protagonist. This sense of immersion is further enhanced by the shifting rhythms, which cleverly suggest the physical actions of the fisherman—perhaps pausing to examine a catch before the thoughtful, rhythmic "sighs" of the music hint at the decision to release it back to the depths.

For this listener, the piece does not lean into a high-stakes struggle like The Old Man and the Sea, although the music embraces the solitude of the task. The music provides a space for philosophical meditation, underscored by a pervasive "sighing" quality that feels both weary and peaceful. The ending carries a poignant sense of ultimate futility, yet it remains a "nice track" that invites the listener to reflect on the nature of effort and the beauty of the sea.

As a listener who truly appreciates the work of those who go out to sea to provide for us, I found this to be a highly pleasing and thoughtful tribute to the quiet dignity of the fisherman's life.

This song is a soul-stirring tribute that captures the profound bond between the fishermen and the sea. Musically, it reflects the vastness of the ocean—alternating between calm, yearning passages and a powerful, rhythmic surge that feels like the tide itself.

The composition beautifully portrays the hardship of life at sea, framing it not just as labor, but as a calling. It is a piece that commands respect while maintaining a meditative quality, instantly transporting the listener to the windswept coast.

Hello Philip,

Thank you for your fine detail, yes all of the influences and feelings that can only be expressed in the language of music. But your talent in at least coming close to what is in the sound and expression of the song with well expressed words can't go un-noticed. And you did notice that the music was not an expression of 'obsession' as in 'Moby Dick' where the seamen were doomed. It was more of a balance of in nature. And not quite the tragedy as in 'The Perfect Storm'. It is the determination to survive with the seaman's determination to provide simply what is needed for his family and those who depend on his skills to make reasonable commercial profit and putting food on the table. And what does anyone in their quiet moments feel about the vast sea around them or the peaceful environment out on the serene lake?

One thing I notice in many theater scores is a solo instrument and performer (such as the calliope) playing along with the big orchestral sound and then getting a chance to perform in the forefront. I does work well representing the fisherman and the vast sea or moments of quiet reflection ;)

My best wishes!

Mark ;)

Hi my friend Mark,
Ah! The Old Man and the Sea, I love it and I've seen the film several times on TV in the past.

Congratulations on this beautiful music with its lovely sounds, especially the choir, which fits the theme perfectly.
It really makes you feel like you're out there on the vast ocean, alone in a small boat, waiting for the ultimate, coveted fish: the Merlin, with its bill as sharp as a sword, which has already injured, or worse, many fishermen.

An immense fish with incredible strength and agility.

Thank you for this beautiful music.
Friendly greetings from Pat

Wonderful story to accompany your brilliant production, Mark. Today, fishermen worldwide are finding it incredibly difficult to catch anything, as the oceans have been severely overfished by the giant fishing vessels of industrialized nations. Fish stocks have dwindled dramatically. That's why I feel a bit of sympathy and sadness for the fishermen who depend on their catch to feed their families while listening to your musical contribution. 😉Wonderful, relaxed music with beautiful elements and a fantastic sound! 💯💯💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯👌👌👌👌👌👑👑👑👑👑💯💯💯💯💯

Stay healthy, see you soon, and greetings from Sylvio 😎

@Vio-Project

Thanks, Sylvio,

for your kind comments regarding the music in this piece, and for sharing your understanding of the situation of those who earn their living through fishing—as well as the challenges and hardships they face in doing so. Perhaps some of them will discover and listen to this instrumental piece, and in doing so, feel seen and appreciated—both in their work and in the moments of peace granted to them.

Danke, Sylvio,

Alles Gute,

Mark ;)

Hello Pat,

I much enjoyed your comments on 'The Fisherman'. Yes I have watched, listened to, and read many stories and songs about the experience of the sea by the characters of the stories, and decided to do a song about the real fishermen and others who make a living or enjoy the quiet moments of the lakes and seas. It was quite and experience putting the song together with the right sounds and impressions.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment here!

Hello Henri,

Thank you for your profound understanding of my song, "The Fisherman." This thematic instrumental piece embodies a part of ourselves that transcends the ages, reaching back as far as human memory can recall. I chose a melody and instrumentation that express—through the language of music—the very essence of the fisherman, as well as the daily challenges and emotions he experiences in the practice of his craft. I also sought to convey a sense of empathy toward the experiences of those who live their lives in rhythm with the sea.

Mark ;)

Hi Mark,

a very beautiful piece of music about the fishermen.💯👍👌

I wouldn't be suited to being a fisherman; I get seasick.

But I really enjoyed your musical contribution.

I love the sea, boats, and harbors, even smaller ones. When you have the chance, you can watch all the big and small ships and fishing boats coming and going, accompanied by the sounds of the seagulls. Simply wonderful.
