I sent an email to support asking about a possible Sound Forge update and they said the following:
"Currently, there are no official plans or announcements for the next release in the SOUND FORGE product line. At this point, we can't really say what the future holds for this line and what a future release schedule could look like. Such decisions may come during the course of this and next year, where there will be a lot of rethinking of product/company strategy and portfolio".
@john_barr Is this a problem? I personally still use SF12 and it works fine. It seems like SF18 also is less buggy than previous versions 16 and 17.
For editing WAV files and it's scripting capabilities it's good enough.
I upgraded to 13, 14, 16 and then stopped. The same bugs. No fixes.. wasted money upgrading.
I now use Sound Forge 11 and Acoustica by Acon Digital. Acoustica is super fast at loading and SF11 is more stable than any of the versions Magix released.
I literally looked up when Magix took over and V12 was it.. interesting.
@WhyB Sound Forge Version 12 works well. It is the version I continue to use, even though it lacks modern features such as ARA. Should Boris FX fix the remaining bugs in Sound Forge 2026, I will likely upgrade. However, since the company is currently looking for new developers to handle Sound Forge and Acid, this will take some time.
Compared to Acoustica, Sound Forge can run custom scripts which I need for automated file processing.
But Acoustica is definitely an excellent piece of software.
If you are not aware already, Sound Forge is now published by BorisFX, FWIW " Sound Forge 2026 appears identical to (Magix) Sound Forge 18 aside from the branding. The only bug that has been addressed so far was the need to double-click really really fast to select a region, which was present in SF versions 16, 17 & 18. Magix is still responsible for support of the versions they published. Reports indicate BorisFX support is very good. Unfortunately that does not help folks with the Magix versions except for generalized questions, but then either the Magix or the BFX Sound Forge forum will suffice.
A 15-day full functioning demo of Sound Forge 2026 is available from BorisFX who also acquired Vegas and Acid. Like Magix, BFX's main focus is Vegas.
I tested Sound Forge 2026 and didn't find any difference.
But...
plugins like the free Reapper package, for example, only work on SF 12. From 13 to 19 (2026) they don't.
And there are plugins that worked on 18 but not on 12.

Hi @JoaoBC, if you are referring to the free REAPER ReaPlugs, the 64 bit VST-2 version causes SF to freeze However the 32 bit VST 2 version ReaPlugs seem to work as they should. I re-tested them with SFP-15 and 18 to confirm the behavior. I would assume the same for SF13-18 and BorisFX Sound Forge 2026.
