Album: Theme For Mother In G-Minor

Hello Community!

Obviously, this Composition/arrangement represents a distinct departure from what I'm usually associated with.  However a few days ago, my dear mother was admitted into the hospital with an unknown illness.  As I sat at my computer/keyboard/piano/Workstation, this song came to me out of the blue.  I started tinkering around with a few notes and chords, and decided to put this orchestral piece together.  During my mother's earlier days, she was a professional concert singer (soprano) and sang with many orchestras.  So, instead of a strict Jazz arrangement, I assembled musical instruments of an orchestral ensemble (French horns, violins, etc.).  If you listen closely, you'll also hear a Jazz bass, drums, etc.  The trumpet phrasings are most certainly Jazz inspired and engages the more classical instruments in, I guess, in a rather unique, but uncontentious fashion.

By the way, I've always entertained the notion of doing something like this, but had never really felt inspired enough.  (For all the musicians at the forum, don't ask me why this arrangement is in G-minor, because I really can't tell you). <lol>

Since this is NOT strictly a "Jazz" nor classical piece, I've decided to place this into the "Ambient Music/Easy Listening" section???

Here's to all our precious mothers out there!

I hope you enjoy the presentation.

Griff

Oh, the next sad theme. Bernd came along today with the syrien war, and now you tell us what happened to your mother. Life is not always funny. Also music has not to be always funny. And this track is well done again. Great carefully instrumentation, cause you know exactely what you're doing. Best luck to your mother *****

Griff.  I can't critique this. I can only say that it is a beautiful tribute to your mother and I sincerely hope you intend to play this for her.  There is absolutely nothing about this song that isn't exceptional.  The spirit in which it was written tells the whole story and I feel as though you have offered us an opportunity to peek inside your life and see what type of man you are. A good one.  You're a good man, Griff and I'm sure you have made your mother proud since the day you were born and you keep right on making her prouder every day.  Man, this sounds so corny!

It's not always about the music.  It's sometimes about the person who writes the music, who plays the music and how they play the music and this song for your mother tells us everything we need to know......................Maybe this makes sense and maybe not but it's what I thought as I was listening to your song.

Très belle composition, certes triste mais de circonstance.

Joli mélange de styles aussi et je pense que cette musique agréable à écouter et qui nous fait penser, pourait être le générique d'un film.

Bravo !

je la mets dans mes favoris

Hello Erol,
I am deeply touched by this work for your mother. The loss of one's own mother or father is still living a deep cut into his own. Only those who love can also suffer properly. What remains are the many beautiful moments
I am pleased with your very soulful musical implementation.

Very nice work erol

Hi Griff,
this song is wonderful, but they are even more' feelings that have led you to write it, and this shows that you are a wonderful person with great human values.
I wish you all the best, and I hope your mother will recover soon.

Hi Griff,

My thoughts are with you and your Mother, I have gone through this situation and it is never easy.

This very tender song is so full of emotion I can't even begin to describe the feelings it evokes in me. I believe that music is a reflection of the man (woman), this song indeed speaks volumes about the author.

Your cover is eloquently beautiful. I get a true feeling of the beautiful soul that is your mother. Sorry if I am sounding corny but this resonates deeply with me.

Without a doubt, this goes into my Fav's.

Positive thoughts for your Mum and you.

Best Regards,

Stu

It really doesn't matter what genre you put this in, Griff.  It's stunning and I love it.  Your sheer genius comes through with those jazz influences layered over a more orchestral arrangement.  It is packed with feeling (that trumpet work is lovely) - which given the trigger for you composing this is understandable.  I do hope your mother starts feeling better soon.  She should be lifted by this wonderful piece, when she gets to hear it.  Your mastery knows no bounds.

Please take my and my family's best wishes with you for yours.
Cheers,
Nick

(couldn't give you stars as they've disappeared as they sometimes do, darnit - you know this piece deserves at least 20)

Reading your description, I couldn't help but get choked up within the first few seconds of this extremely powerful piece. This is so well done, but more importantly, best wishes to the wonderful and talented person your mother must be. I wish I was more knowledgeable in the world of singers, but I do know one soprano, and she's so sweet, so I've come to expect that from sopranos as a whole.  My thoughts will be with your mother and you.

My heart goes out to you Griff, it would be a very hard time for you right now... :'(

I am deeply sorry to hear the backstory behind this song, and I do hope you know that we are all here to help you if you have something you just need to get off your chest.

This opens so sweetly, and I can hear so many heartfelt notes and rhythms, in all of the instrumental arrangements..

The violin... The trumpet... The piano...

It really is a splendid piece that encapsulated every emotion from you perfectly.

I truly hope your Mother recovers quickly and is back on her feet soon.

Take care

Very heartfelt, soulful. A melancholy jazz journey where every instrument and note has been brilliantly placed. The high strings in the background give the song a disquieting feeling. Perfect composition. Masterfully produced.

I hope all works out for you.

Sandro Glavina is an italian composer, named L'Uomo e L'Ombra. The choice of the name derives from the title of the album "L'uomo e l'ombra" of the band "Abstract Music Nuova Esistenza", an experimental group founded by Sandro Glavina together with his friends in the mid-70s.

In the period 2009-2022, L'Uomo e L'Ombra has done 84 albums. The compositions of Sandro Glavina are partly influenced by progressive rock. Sandro has developed a personal style with many experimentations and actualizations. He offers music beyond borders by intertwining different styles in crossover with each other. Prog, psychedelia, classical, post-rock, jazz, pop are some of the influences that dissolve in ambient atmospheres, citations of contemporary music and minimalist nuances. Sandro Glavina aka L'Uomo e L'Ombra plays the music using VSTI synthesizers, keyboards and adds some loops. Sandro isn't a professional musician, composes and plays music just for fun, but his works reach a good outcome, pleasant to listen. L'UOMO E L'OMBRA
