Magix Music Maker 2013 Premium unable to play loops

jakobjoergensen escrito el 28.08.PM a las 18:28 horas

Hi, Magix

Ive just got the Music Maker 2013 Prem!!! Sooo excited!
Nooo, a dead hamster!! It doesnt work on my Windows XP!!

Issue: None of the loops included or downloaded can be used. Ive done som test and trail my self and can tell Music Maker 2003 and Music Maker MX (2012) works as normal on my computer. I can even load the .oggs from the 2013 package into the 2012 MX program and use them.

Error description
When I select a loop in the soundpool browser a requester comes up:
Path not found: \:\ !
- I have to hit OK button to continue.

When I grab a loop from the soundpool browser and drop it the arranger window a requester comes up:
Cannot open file
\:\Documents\MAGIX\AudioTemp\Jam 6_ogg.WAV

- I have to hit OK button to continue.
Another requester comes up saying:
The file format of
C:\Documents and Settings\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools\Basics_19\Electric Jazz Vol 1.\Bass\Jam 6.OGG
Cannot be read by MAGIX Music Maker

- I can hit OK button to continue or Help
- - Ok closes the requester while Help opens help.

If I locate the same file via the File Manager and try to open it I have the same issues.

Ive tried to relocate the folder - didnt help
Ive tried to clean up and reset soundpool - didnt help
Ive tried to uninstall and then reinstall MM2013Premium - didnt help

Im running out of ideas.

Is there an issue with MM2013Premium or am I just extremly unlucky?!

If anyone has some awesome ideas on how to make the soundpool work in MM2013Premium please write me.

I am using Windows XP on an i7 Mac via VMWare Fusion. The version number is: 19.0.0.29 (UDC1). Everything is latest versions and fully updated.

The hardware is 12GB ram and 2TB hd with under 0.8TB used.

Thanks

Hi,

Whenever I see statements such as this "I am using Windows XP on an i7 Mac via VMWare Fusion. The version number is: 19.0.0.29 (UDC1)"  I start to worry.  I assume that VMWare Fusion is some sort of Window XP emulator for MAC.  As soon as I think emulator, I think conflict, especially with Windows XP.  Are you absolutely certain that VMWare Fusion supports every application that runs on Windows XP.  XP and Vista are notorious for not being very video or audio friendly unless you are using Windows audio and video applications.

The VMWare spec is also:

System Requirements:

Any 64-bit capable Intel® Mac. 4GB RAM recommended
750MB free disk space for Fusion at least 5GB for each VM
Mac OS X 10.6.7 or later; OS X Lion recommended
Operating system installation media for virtual machines
    Note: Microsoft Windows Not Included

You did not post your system specs so I have no idea if your Mac meets them or not.

Good Luck

Hi Gandjcarr

Thanks for reply! Much appreciated! I need luck - and time. Once Windows 8 is out I'm gonna take the update offer from my XP version. Microsoft should give one the oppertunity to upgrade for about €40.

///

Everything is latest versions and fully updated. Fusion 5, Windows XP fully updated and latest OS X.

The hardware is 12GB ram and 2TB hd with under 0.8TB used.

It could be just XP playing around, as you suggest. I've tried to install the package on Windows 8 Preview and it works flawlessly here. Just funny since Magix Music Maker 2003 and 2012 versions has no similar issues.

If any one else should experience or even better: have a solution, please contribute.

Thanks

Jakob

Hi Jakob,

I will send a message about this post to a couple of people I know on this forum who have much more knowledge than me, to see if they have any additional insight on this problem.  Based on my previous experience with XP I suspect it could well be the problem, but my experience with VMWare, since the close association with EMC2 I don't have a lot of confidence in them any more either.

I will send out those messages, and I wish you well.

Hi

Unfortunately not all Windows programs will run on VMWare.  It is difficult to say which will run properly and which will not.

Just come across this post - try doing what BigDaz says about the installation folders but on the 'Windows' C drive.

I use Oracle Virtualbox - which is available for Mac s and everything I have tried on it runs OK - I have put MEP on it and it is OK so it may be worth trying MMM MX on it.

As you have already got answers I would like to add further. Better check first the 3rd option below:

1. Are you using various version of Music Maker on the same computer? if so please disable those from Startup and run only Music Maker 2013.

2. Which version of VMware version are you using(never mind)? as two users have already talked about it, this could be the cause of problem.

Or finally:

If in your Music Maker 2013 version there is a check box option under Reset soundpool USE INSTALLED SOUNDPOOL EVEN AFTER RESET uncheck it too.

3. Why not give a try: Make a new Basic folder(other than Music Maker Bacic default one) on your computer such as inside My Music after that Add them to the soundpool library as you do.

Note: use the Basic folder name as it is(no change) in the default or you could copy the entire folder if you like.

Hi Nihon94

Thanks for replying. Much appriciated!

I've tried most of if. I'll go through all your suggestions one by one :)

1. Are you using various version of Music Maker on the same computer? if so please disable those from Startup and run only Music Maker 2013.

- There are 3 installed in total. 2003, MX and 2013. I run only one application at a time. I'm not sure what you mean about Startup, but a short investigation after work should properly give some answers. I'll give it a try!

2. Which version of VMware version are you using(never mind)? as two users have already talked about it, this could be the cause of problem.

- True and XP true. 2013 works fine in Windows 8 Preview.

Or finally:

If in your Music Maker 2013 version there is a check box option under Reset soundpool USE INSTALLED SOUNDPOOL EVEN AFTER RESET uncheck it too.

- All ready tried this. No luck. The soundfiles can't even be loaded from the File Manager to the Arranger.

3. Why not give a try: Make a new Basic folder(other than Music Maker Bacic default one) on your computer such as inside My Music after that Add them to the soundpool library as you do.

- All ready tried this. No luck.

Again, thanks for taking the time to try and help and sort it out! Perhaps it's just XP wich is poorly executed and fairly outdated. 2013 does say XP compatible on the box though.

Sorry last time I did not give you detail. Here is how to disable startup program in windows xp. Avoid step 1 and follow from step2.

Did you get any help from Magix support?

jakobjoergensen escrito el 28.10.PM a las 19:01 horas

Found the solution: VMWare Fusion uses a shared document drawer. Fusions the two drawers so both machines shares the same stuff.

MMM MX had no problem with this, while MMM2013 had.

Disable the Sharing feature will enable MMM2013 to load loops.

Thanks all for trying to help out!

And I'll add, I've never seen Magix Music Maker so stable :) Have not had one crash yet.
