Problems creating Disc menus etc using Video Pro X ver: 15.0.0.56

francisf.-rivinus escrito el 11.01.PM a las 19:46 horas

OS: Windows 10

I am a new user of Video Pro X. I found the movie editing functionality fairly straight forward. However, when I try to create a disc with menus I run into all sorts of problems and every time I seem to have gotten things sorted out, the problems change.

The worst problem seems to be that the disc portion does not seem to know about the movie portion even though the project is open and showing in the header line. The symptom is either no Navigation screen at all or a blank Navigation Screen. As a result it is impossible to create buttons linked to chapters in the movie. Occasionally the disc portion does show a linkage to the movie. However, there is no consistency and I can't figure out how to force a linkage as reopening the project in the disc portion doesn't change anything.

Secondly, importing the PSD file doesn't produce the menus that existed when the file was created, it simply creates a blank white screen and occasionally a partial button. The PSD file itself is quite large almost 3MB so I expect the information is there but not getting used.

Thirdly, saving the project doesn't seem to keep any information about the disc menus that have been created. I got about 90percent to a completed disc menu set last night, saved the project, created a PSD file and stopped expecting to finish up this morning. When I loaded the project and went to the disc portion none of the menu information I had created was there and there was no navigation screen.

I would appreciate any help/ideas. I love the power of Video Pro X which allowed me to match up the high quality audio recording of a choral concert with the video and remove the mediocre audio track provided by the video recorder. However, if I can't successfully create a disc it significantly reduces its usefulness.

Thanks,

Francis Rivinus

I also have Video Pro 7 and as a test I have opened up the Video Pro X project and PSD in Video Pro 7 all the linkages, navigation and menus from my work last night are there!! It appears there is some problem with Video Pro X.

Hi Francis,

I'm not really sure what you are doing. Why are you importing a PSD file and later creating a PSD file?

I think that the role of the PSD files is to be able to make modifications to things that cannot be done normally in the interface. I have only exported to PSD, modified some buttons, and imported the result a few times without problems.

If you have multiple movies in the project, then when you click on Edit in Burn interface, you should see both/all movies and their respective chapters. Are you saying that you don't see multiple movies? Can you give us some screen shots?

Hi

I am not surprised you are having problems as you are running an entirely unpatched version of VPX. There have been at least 4 patches of which the current ends in xxxx.211.

Go to the top menu Help>Update Online and when it says an update is available click "New in this update" and you will see the bug fixes from the respective patches which include problems with the DVD authoring. Even if there is no specific mention of your problem it could still be something they tweaked and did not mention. You only need to install the latest patch available to you as they are cumulative.

Hi Scenestealer,

I have done online update and it keeps downloading the same update and then at the install I get a message that the update has already been installed and the only option is a repair. When it repairs it does not update the version information.

I have tried to do a complete uninstall and start over. However, it appears that the uninstall was partial and left remnants. I really would like to get back to square 0 and start again 🙁

The good new is I have been able to generate an acceptable disc and meet my commitments. Now I can focus on getting Video Pro X cleaned up and up to current rev. levels.

Hi John,

my project has only one movie - very simple. Sometimes I get a navigation screen with the chapters and sometimes I don't. Since I have been able to load the project and PSD file successfully into Video Pro 7 and got what I expected I suspect that my installation of Video Pro X is corrupted in some way. After I closed everything in Video Pro 7 and tried again with Video Pro X things worked well enough to allow me to complete the menus and generate an acceptable disc. However, I suspect when I close Video Pro X I will lose what I've just done.

Hi,

Glad to hear that you got your project out.

You may have a corrupt installation and/or update for VPX9. Download and run the following file from the Microsoft site and uninstall any VPX9 patches and VPX9. I got this from Magix for cases when there were problems with patches.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

Then try re-installing and updating to the latest patch.

That Microsoft fix John has linked worked for me when I had problem you are experiencing. From memory it found the patch and uninstalled it which allowed the .56 version to update properly.

Hi John and Scenestealer,

thank you both for your help and support! I managed to get a clean uninstall and reinstall with the MS tool. That's the good news. There appear to be two 'Major Update' patches from Magix. The first of about 109MB took my installation from 15.0.0.56 to 15.0.3.154(?) and installed and worked fine. However, it was followed immediately by another patch of about 309MB which when installed took the version to 15.0.5.211 and now has Video Pro X consuming between 50 - 60% of CPU on an Intel I7 four core 3.6GHz processor at idle and won't allow the program to exit as it produces a popup 'The program is busy.' every time I try to exit. Now the only way I have to exit the program is to go into MS Task Manager and actually kill the process. I have raised a query with Magix support.

Once again thanks to you for your constructive help!

Francis

How about run the tool to uninstall the patches, then run again to uninstall the program, then make sure there are no folders relating to VPX8 or 9 remaining in Program Files or Program Data.
