Hello, I recently upgraded to Movie Studio 25 from Movie Studio 24 on the same Acer Laptop Swift 3, fitted with 16GB RAM. I am at a loss trying to figure out why my RAM usage is quickly climbing to 93%, with only a few slides on my timeline. I did import over 1000 slides into the program, but without including them in my timeline and wondering if this would cause the ecessively high RAM usage.

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.
I don't think so, I just pointed my import selection to a folder with over 2,000 images and let the program sit for a few minutes while disc activity continued and populated the import section with images and then shut the program down and restarted it. My memory use didn't climb above 8.8GBs upon restart.
If you are logged into The Magix hub that could be a reason. I don't use it so I'm not sure.
I am using MMS 2024 though and not 2025.

The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.

Do you mean still images, if so the generation of the preview images will take a short while and the RAM usage may rise during that time..
Does the RAM usage stay at this high level or drop to a lower value after a while?
How much free disk space is available on the C: drive and are you using an external USB drive for the project media?

Maybe he means in the Import, he opened a folder with them, and they show in the Import window.
First of all, I want all of the above responders to know how much I appreciate their effort and time, to help me with this pesky issue. I wish Magix had provided us frustrated users with a customer service phone number to help us resolve their issue more directly but on the other hand it will motivate me to look for another editing app that DOES have a phone number to call.
Here's more information which describes what is happening. I am NOT using Magix hub as far as I know. My C drive has LOTS OF space available (only 25% used) and I do NOT use any external drive for the project media. My processor is an Intel EVO i7, 12th generation Series H processor. My Graphics card is an IRIS Xe. I am not technically savvy enough to determine if this graphics card or this processor are the issue. RAM usage seems to peak in the mid 90% range then everything slows down considerably and I believe some of the disk space may be used for additional storage. Very fruatrating when you wnt to add speciall effects, titles, music, narration etc.
When I load the program, it automatically shows me the over 1000 JPEG pictures to which I've pointed previously. Not sure this is one of the reasons for the high RAM usage but it could be ... as when I point at folders containing only a few pictures, RAM usage does not seem to increase much. Problem is .... I would like to use almost all of these 1000 pictures for my slideshow. I guess this means I need more RAM memory or a better graphics card?

As I first reported, the amount of images showing in the import section does increase ram use but I had over 2,000 images of which half were at least 46MBs each and my physical ram usage did not go above 8.6GBs but the commit charge was somewhat higher.
The Xe Graphics is not a separate GPU but a part of the mobile processor die of your Intel H mobile CPU. It is the equivalent of an nvidia GT 1030 which I had and was struggling to cope on my old PC when I was running the software some versions ago.
The Xe Processor has a reserve of 4GBs or ram dedicated to it, beyond that it will take up additional ram normally used for the operating system and program that is running. If the memory demand gets too high as to start using the C: drive instead it will cause slowing down or freezing of the program. More ram may help but is no guarantee. If your laptop has 16GB of ram that should have been sufficient for the amount of images showing in your import section. It's really only generating thumbnails and not the whole images themselves.
Unless you are a business using a multiple user licence with a contract stating you will get phone help I doubt you will find a video editor with a phone helpline.

Thank you very much, Ray for this precious info concerning my PC's limitations. Unless I buy another more powerful PC, it looks like I may need to lower the number of photos to include in my slideshow. This is not what I wanted for my project, but as a famous rock group once said .... you can't always get what you want ;-)

Actually I never tested MMS2024 with over 1,000 pictures, so I never encountered this RAM usage issue with the previous version.

I'll also assume that all these pictures are on your actual hard drive and you are not accessing them via Onedrive or anything like that.
In Program settings, check your graphics acceleration and change these settings to determine if there is any improvement. You may need to restart the software after making the change.

Can-Dive, thank you for your suggestions. Yes, all pictures are on the hard drive. I have not changed the graphics acceleration settings yet. They look exactly like the snip you added to your comment. Since I am not sure of the impact of changing these settings, I would rather hold off on it unless you have some specific suggestions.

Hi,
To start, files on the import screen of the media pool are not in the program. The import screen is a flavour of Windows Explorer with some added features, but basically it is just displaying the files that are on your hard drives. If you delete a file from there, it is deleted from your hard drive, so don't delete files from the Import screen unless you are sure that you don't want to ever see it again. Deleting a file from the timeline is not a problem.
Files - photos, videos, audio - are never actually in the program. The program just remembers the path\filename, and how to use it, that is all. The program opens your file from the hard drive in the timeline. If you ever delete a file from your hard drive that you have used in a project, then the next time you open the project, the program won't be able to find your file and will ask you where it is.
Try what @Can-Dive suggested. You won't break anything...usually. It's something most of us do often, usually when we get a black screen on some files or effects.
Back to the import screen, if you have Large Icons turned on and the icons haven't been made before, then the program will make them in order to display them. I just went to a folder of 1062 scanned photos that I had never gone to before in MMS, and the icons were missing at first. It took a short while to get them. I thought that this could be your problem, but the needle barely moved on my CPU. Then, I selected all 1062 and put them on the timeline. It took about 20 seconds, again, the CPU didn't move much. Playback was fine.
However, the first save with the 1062 photos caused the CPU to go to 100% for a few seconds. Reopening the project again caused the CPU to go to 100% for a few seconds before dropping back to less than 10%.
I have had folders with one or more bad files that the program didn't like, and that has caused problems. In particular, a video file that the program didn't like on an external hard would cause the drive to go to 100% for up to a minute, and this, without importing it to the timeline. Watch your hard drive usage when you go to different folders with photos to see what happens.
What is the source of your slides? Perhaps you could upload a few to a file sharing site and we can take a look.
Try importing your 1000 slides into a project and monitor what happens. Let us know. Again, you won't break anything.
If MMS2024 worked fine with the same material, 2025 should as well. Finding out what is causing the high memory usage could be difficult.

Out of interest what is the size of the folder and therefore the average image sizes? Because with all the best will in the world my system could not load half the 2,000 odd images onto the timeline in even a few minutes.
That's my folder size I was testing.

With respect to the number of still images that can be imported into the program, my last timelapse recording of just over 2000+ images, imports and plays with out issue on my laptop, specs are in my Signature.
