Whenever I try to convert a DVD to a computer file MP4 or AVI the sound and the video do not match up starting about halfway through file. I am using the VTS_01_1.VOB file. It never works. The beginning of the converted file seems to match up, then...out of sync.

Is this problem really only apparent on the exported result? Most likely it will already manifest itself one way or the other in the preview after importing the VOB file(s). If you're using Movie Edit Pro, you should right-click the video track in timeline mode and choose the option to recreate the frametable in this case.

VOB files (Video OBject) are not very stable for editing. They are MPEG-2 files but because they also can carry embedded info that you would find on a commercial Movie (new camera angles; other languages; Sub-titles etc etc.) many conversion programs get "confused". I got a tip from a tech support guy who turned me on to a little sweety of a program called "MPEG STREAMCLIP" (from "SQUARED 5"). Here's the link...it's free....or search yourself on download.com. www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=MPEG%20STREAMCLIP&tag=srch
