[NEW] SpectraLayers Pro 5 thread ...

MrSoundman wrote on 4/7/2018, 5:16 PM

I am trying out the new SL Pro 5, it would be great to hear from, and to learn from each other's experience!

To quote DivideFrame:
"On Windows, SL4 and SL5 can co-exist. On macOS, SL5 will overwrite SL4. On both platform, each activation remain valid."

Well, so far any file I load results in the whole window turning black.
No menus or anything visible at all.
Previous version works fine

Hi Christopher, can you send me the logs files located in Documents/SpectraLayers Pro logs ? [ contact at divideframe.com ]

Would you by chance have an old AMD graphic card ?

Could you give build 134 a try ( https://drive.google.com/open?id=1r-ZndNWoi-ndm7-TX0DrSDHGr-_n8pWf ), go to Edit/Preferences/Display, choose "OpenGL ES" and restart SpectraLayers.
The problem you reported usually happen with non-conformants graphic drivers from old AMD graphic cards.

Re Graphics Card :: I'll have to have a dig. I'm using a Samsung laptop,,,
[FX: time passes] Looks like an Intel thing

Re Log file :: Hopefully it's gone to the right place!
Looking at the log, it's obviously a graphics issue

Re build 134 :: Yay! That works

The Magix supplied system details program returns nothing! This is from Piriform’s "Speccy"

Perhaps you could disable the Intel graphics in the BIOS as you seem to have an NVidia chip in that machine as well.

So far no problems here with Intel HD Graphics 530, OpenGL 4.5. DirectX 12 (i.e. integrated GPU, no discrete graphics card).

Hi Chris, glad you made it work (using the OpenGL ES mode I assume ?). I'm still interested in looking at the logs to narrow down such issues. Either here, private message or by emails at contact [at] divideframe.com

Thanks !

the new gui is very fine and the under the hood improvements seem worthwhile - speedier I think. But the feature set is not much different in areas I am interested in so I am probably not upgrading at this stage. Although I would definitely recommend people to buy it if they haven't a copy already. I would like to ask though, are there any planned additions during this v5 cycle eg export layers as individual wavs, select on amplitude, others?

thanks, Greg

I'm between projects at the moment so I have not had a chance to see SL5 in day-to-day use, but 2 problems have very quickly become apparent:

1/ SL5 takes about 12 seconds to open (to the splash screen - including when linking to SL5 via Tools in Sound Forge 12) whereas SL3 takes about half a second; and

2/ when SL5's window is set to full screen, the Menu Bar selections (File/Edit/Project/etc) are inaccessible; that is, the drop-down menus do not open. Reducing the window display to mid-size and then dragging the window's borders out to near full-size overcomes (so far) the Menu Bar display problems.

I went to Magix's support pages to lodge a ticket re these issues, but SpectraLayers does not appear on the audio support page as a product for which a ticket can be lodged.

Anyone know how to fix the payback problem when SL5 is loaded from Samplitude pro X3? I have a clip on the timeline in X3, I select the 'Edit in SL5' option and the clip is loaded fro me to edit. Trouble is, the playback button and shortcut to play do not work so I can hear what I want to edit!

Any ideas? I have an Nvidia 780ti graphics card on an i7 machine if that helps. Thanks.
