Titling - custom template - specifically, formatting text line by line

Hey folks,

I've edited a few videos now, but it has been a while since my last one. I have the latest version of VPX. I'm looking at the titling options for making rolling credits at the end of my film. I didn't care for any of the templates, so I want to make my own. I could have sworn that one can paste a ton of text (like a list of roles and who did them) and then selectively edit the formatting - like making all of the roles underlined without making everything else underlined. Or making the roles have one font or size, and the names have another. Just like the templates have! That doesn't seem to work. If I highlight a role, say 'Cast', or 'Director', then apply something like a font change or bold, it affects all text. I expected it to work like in Photoshop. Note that what I see (attached) doesn't match the manual.

Is my installation just messed up? I originally had a trial of X7, purchased X8 and have updated to whatever the latest is as of yesterday (15.0.5.195).

Or maybe this isn't possible? NewblueFX Titler costs more than VPX, so I don't see myself getting that!

Any insight would be appreciated. Let me know if you need more info.

Hi

. . . . I could have sworn that one can paste a ton of text (like a list of roles and who did them) and then selectively edit the formatting . . . .

You can, and it does work in VPX - see below - however if the text is being generated in Word, or from a web page, for example, it comes in with formatting attached to it which can mess up the titling editor effects.

I copy the text from Word and paste it into Notepad first to remove any formatting, then copy and paste the Notepad text into the Title editor, then format as you see below.

Note: you may find that, after formatting a section of text, it takes 2 left clicks (not a double click) to get the mouse 'back' - the first sets the effect you have applied and the second refocuses the mouse in the title pane.

Dude! That's just what I needed. It seems I didn't realize I had to pop it out to the big area on the left. I was trying to do everything in the small area on the right. You can't do it there, right? I have a render going right now, or I'd look.

I needed to get the render going in order to check some lip sync issues. I recorded all three showings of a play, and when someone in the audience makes a loud noise, I use one of the other audio tracks to splice in a better version. So when that is done, I'll try out what you showed.

Thanks so much!

Correct - the small pane in the title editor behaves as a global effects editor - useful if you need to change for example font, size and colour all at once.
