Update 15.0.4.164(UDC2) loss of function

Things seem to running well, but after the completion of burning a DVD, I no longer have the ability to end the process. It completes making all the files, but I cannot exit the program, there is no "OK", or cancel to close the program. I must go to the task manager and end the task. Just freezes up when its complete. Odd. Must be time for a reinstall? Any suggestions.

Have the same problem and reported it to Magix, but so far no anwer from them. So we need to wait for a patch...

Strange. I found yesterday after posting this, if you wait for the burning process to stop, and click the ok immediately when it pops up, it does not freeze.

Yes I see the same thing! The Close button is present on the final screen (see screenshot attached) but it cannot be clicked and the whole program seems to, effectively, freeze.

Try the following:

Start MEP and open a blank project
In the program settings System tab, change the Hide News option - if it is checked, uncheck it or the reverse.
Close MEP.
Restart MEP and repeat the 2 - 3 again

MEP should now close correctly.

Restart MEP and repeat the 2 - 3 again

MEP should now close correctly.

Followed your procedure exactly (in VPX); unfortunately, no change. Everything locks on the "Burning successfully completed" screen.

I meant VPX - I had the same issue with MEP.

Toggling the Hide News option and restarting the program in between fixed the problem - for some reasons the option was being ignored and stopping the program closing.

However I too have the same issue.

Here is another thing I learned, if I choose the OK quickly after the export to DVD is complete, it corrupts the export, and the menu system gets all jacked up. Not only do I get the .vob files, I also get .bmp of the menu icons, along with other files that may be the masks for those menus. Then I have to go back to the timeline, export the project file, then start a new project, and import the prior exported file, then build up the menu system again. I am now discovering the DVD's I've just created, have not been able to play on various DVD players. Keep in mind, I record the performing arts programs at various schools, and cannot risk distributing 100's of DVD's that potentially do not work. This has gotten very frustrating. I have never had a recall, to replace defective discs, and I never want that to happen.

There was some discussion in the German forum about MEP/VPX not closing and it was to do with the news screen being open behind the programs GUI. There was a fix suggested for that which entailed disabling the news in the Videodeluxe.ini file IIRC. Could be relevant in this case.....

I received a reply from Magix support, suggesting that resetting the program to its defaults would cure the problem.

Ignoring the fact that such a change would completely remove ALL the personalisations, file settings etc. which I use in the program on my computer (thankfully an on-screen message told me the appropriate .ini file would be backed up and saved, so the changes could be reversed easily), I did the reset, closed, reopened the program, error still present!

I have replied to the support ticket to point out the solution does not work! I will post back here when/if there is any further news.

I forgot to add, in my earlier post today, when export to dvd is complete, I can now click the OK button to finish. I would expect it to stay on the DVD export/menu screen, but it clears the timeline, then opens the previous project I was working on. It no longer stays on the same project it was rendering, it jumps to a prior project. Seems like whenever I try to change settings, investigate what may be wrong, I open another can of worms.

Mine still sits on the final screen; nothing is clickable, no return to anywhere, no option but to force close with Task Manager.

What Peter is referring to is an alternative method to the my post a couple above his.

The method above achieves the same result without the need for editing the ini file. However if the file is corrupt then a program reset would be necessary.

I would therefore kindly like to inform you that you are experiencing a known bug in Video Pro X . This has been reported by multiple users and the development team are in progress of making a future update to fix this issue.

It's very heartening to see that a) they have accepted this is a bug, and b) even more important, they're working on a fix!

Hi Peter.

The specific problem I reported, now accepted by Magix as a bug, is that the whole app freezes or behaves completely randomly (see one of gmlotkow's earlier posts) when DVD burning has been completed.

I didn't have the version prior to the .164 patch so I can't say whether or not the patch has introduced it.
