@ericlnz MPC - I did have my doubts so thanks for your thoughts. I did mention to @CubeAce the Quicktime box that needs ticking in Depreciated features, his reply was 'I think there must be more project settings as ticking that didn't work for me.'

@Gid @johnebaker @Marc-Goder Thanks for revisiting this issue. Like @johnebaker, the video plays in my VPX16 and MMS2024 in the Source Monitor but without sound. If I move the media onto the timeline, there is no audio track. @Gid thanks for taking

Thanks for your time, you are right, the video is from a Canon video camera. The audio is there at the start of the clip, it is when I move the slider to get to the end of the video (or further along) that it goes wrong, like wise if it does start
