  Some more info... I reset the program settings to default: still joy with activating MPEG 4. I then did a standard uninstall and reinstall: MPEG-4 files came in with no issue, no activation required.

  Well, this is interesting. Having deleted that registry key earlier, and successfully having (re) activated MPEG-4 import by starting the program as an admin, I now find I have to start it "as admin" every time, otherwise the "activation required"
