RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
Raw Captures done with a LG 990 VCR, Composite only, all captured and processed with MEP. The ADVC is DV-AVI, the others are captured in MPEG 2 at 10,000kbps. Note the very grainy/noisy ADVC ADVC with Neat video denoiser applied - chalk and

RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
@johnebaker Hi John. I really don’t know about that Bridge32 program but the FW ports on my computer work with ALL my audio apps (my audio interface is on a FW connection) as well as with DV camera input to MEP, VPX and Scenealyzer. The latter is

RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
@Jeff-Reed Jeff, I have precisely the same card sitting on my shelf waiting for my new machine. Currently, my Firewire port is on the motherboard. When I clean-installed Win 10 in 2017 (and later) I didn't update or install any IEEE1394 drivers;

RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
@Jeff-Reed Make sure your machine can take PCI cards. You may be limited to PCIe. Ordered a star Tech PCI card for firewire 400 today and plan to try it out with a demo of movie edit pro. As I mentioned at the start, there are other, free, programs

RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
Thanks everyone for your responses. To be clear, I have the external canopus ADVC 110 device, not a PCI card version. I was assuming I would need to buy a PCI card with a FireWire port to see if the canopus external device would be recognized. Since

RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
There are no drivers for the ADVC-110. There's no point in looking for them. It is treated by Windows as a DV camera using the Microsoft IEEE1394 drivers, as per that website I linked to. I found only 4 on Ebay, and they're being sold not because

RE: Windows Software to import Video with a Canopus ADVC110
@CubeAce @Jeff-Reed I think that site is a con. Do not use that software. The ADVC-110, AFAIK, does not have upgradeable firmware, and certainly doesn't have Windows 10 software drivers. It uses your Firewire card, which is run by the standard

RE: Installing and activating add-on programs
@allaa-Azawi Hi Allaa. I think maybe you are using an analog DV camera? I have no experience with using those as all my cameras are purely digital and I just download the video from their memory cards in either mov or MP4 formats. You may have to

RE: Capturing Mini DV: Is it possible to adjust the output file type ?
@CarpentersMate Mike, To clarify a statement I made earlier about MEP's MP4 export times, I have run some export-time tests. Here are the results: Source file: 11:55 720x576 4:3 DV-AVI Encoding parameters: 720x576 4:3 MPEG-4 at Average bitrate of

RE: Capturing Mini DV: Is it possible to adjust the output file type ?
Alwyn where are you? Are you ready for a Chicken Dinner? Had a lamb roast last night and just got up! 😉 "Muxing" is short for Multiplexing, where the video stream and audio stream are joined together to form the final file. The opposite is

RE: Capturing Mini DV: Is it possible to adjust the output file type ?
@CarpentersMate Mike: The MP4 is, to my eye, the wrong aspect ratio. It is currently 3:2 when it should be 4:3. The people's heads currently look a little wide, and setting the aspect ratio to 4:3 in MEP makes them look more natural. The aspect can

RE: Capturing Mini DV: Is it possible to adjust the output file type ?
@CarpentersMate Mike, Re QT, yes, we're both right. The Quicktime codec (which MEP 2013 has) is an MPEG 4-type codec and is placed in the MOV container (file extension). The later MEPs do not have that option, although we can export to an Apple

Alwyn You mentioned: "QT is just a player, as far as I understand, not a file type" See screen shot: http://www.ww2survivorstories.com/QT-Export.jpg As for storing AVI files, I'd like to check the other captures to see what they really are ... You

RE: Capturing Mini DV: Is it possible to adjust the output file type ?
@CarpentersMate Mike, Re the linked post, I wanted it to reiterate the point of capturing in DV-AVI, then export to MPEG 2 or 4 for distribution. I don't suggest using Movie Maker. Re your QT message with your MPEG 2 file, I did find this old post

RE: Capturing Mini DV: Is it possible to adjust the output file type ?
@CarpentersMate Mike, I exported to MPEG 2 (as suggested), adjusted the size and frame rate in MAGIX export settings however the resulted file is not recognized by Quick Time ... I don't have an explanation for that; it could be an Apple/QT-specific

RE: Capture/Import Mini DV Tapes Using MEP2013 (or MEP2016)
John - Sorry I forgot to ask you if I need to set up/assign an external 'SCRATCH' Drive (as I do in Final Cut), before I can start capturing? The scratch drive is actually where the cache is stored required to capture Mini DV Tapes. Thank You!
