Exporting video to ipad vs. burning into DVD

I have a problem with burning of DVD from the project. If I make an ipad film everything is ok. However, if I burd DVD from the same project, the final screen area becomes smaller (the edges of the film are cut away). Why and how can I avoid that?

Thanks for your responses. I had originally tried to break my project by using the "split movie" command. It deleted the entire project. I had never turned off any automatic backup feature, but there were no files listed with the .BAKO.MV
