    Thanks for your responses.  I had originally tried to break my project by using the "split movie" command.  It deleted the entire project.  I had never turned off any automatic backup feature, but there were no files listed with the .BAKO.MV

    floridagal, Backup copies are automatically created (unless you have turned off the feature) and have the extension of .BAK0.MV_ (and BAK1 BAK2 etc) rather than the standard project extension of .MVP. You can rename them but there is a special
