  The way I see it, it's got nothing to do with monitor settings/calibration. The problem is the outside/edging area just too similar to the jet-black of the video "window". You cannot selectively brighten the edging. Andy, that works, after a fashion.

  @MovieEditorr I doubt that it is the digitiser. You'll notice the yellow banding in the sky; that will be caused either by poor tape quality or the VCR, so I think the lines are probably caused by the same issue. You could try cleaning the VCR
