1280 x 72 Video Conversion to play correctly on a TV / DVD Player

Hi, I've recorded a video with a Panasonic camcorder using a 1280 x 72 setting. I want to burn a DVD that will play on a normal DVD player / TV, but at the moment when I burn to disc the DVD image is being cut off at the sides (it plays correctly on a computer with Windows Media Player). I've tried different settings on the burn screen such as DVD PAL widescreen, still no joy!

Should I be altering the resolution of the imported video elsewhere in the process? I'm using Movie Edit Pro MX. Thanks!

Hi

This sounds like you have a setting somewhere in the Burn dialog which is set to 4:3 instead of 16:9.

Assuming the Panasonic video is 1280 * 720 and 16:9 aspect ratio check the following:

  1. The project setting (E key) is 16:9
     
  2. The video on the timeline is set to 16:9 - right click the clip and select Object properties.
     
  3. In the Burn dialog ensure DVD PAL Widescreen is selected and click the Advanced button (1), as shown in the image below, and check that the aspect ratio is actually 16:9 as shown at (2) in the image below. If it is not 16:9 then click the Video tab (3) and change the Aspect ratio to 16:9.



     
  4. If the TV has the option,  widescreen display (aspect ratio) is set correctly ie Auto.

Many thanks for your answer. I've followed all your suggested steps - this screen appeared when I tried to burn to disc:

 

The only difference I can find in the original video is that it is 50 fps - all the other settings are 16:9 / 1280x720. Thanks again!
