2nd try AI Media Management in Video Deluxe

bjtap wrote on 6/9/2025, 12:01 PM

I previously created a post on this but with the many replies, there was nothing on the AI media management in Video Deluxe 2026...

My purchasing the update is based highly on the AI Media Management. I have found two big problems that I want to make sure are not of my doing and to get feedback from others.

1) Many inaccurate classifications.

2) (and the big one) I can see no way to move or remove any files once classified. If I could do this, number one could be manageable.

So, if anyone has used the AI Media Management tool in Video Deluxe 2026 please let me know your experiences and whether or not I might be doing something wrong or just plain missing something... especially with my 2nd point regarding modifying, deleting or moving a file to another classification.

(BTW: This might be of interest: if you select 1 file in a folder to classify.... the whole folder gets classified. Also, apparently classification works on picture files also).

Thanks, Barry

I'm a new user - installed the software about 10 days ago and I agree with your #1 comment about the AI classifications being inaccurate. I have 2 things I'm struggling with as well.

1. when the classification completes (it takes DAYS for that to happen), it doesn't save so as soon as the program closes, either with an error (sent to Magix support) or I close it, all of the items in the AI categories are blown away. Is there a configuration setting I need to change so the data remains? So far I haven't been able to find one.

2. the program doesn't use my physical graphics card. It's a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with12Gb of ram. It's not the fastest/greatest but it's got 12Gb of GDDR6. It's only using the CPU an 11th gen I7 and I have 64Gb of ram. Again, is there a configuration file that I can modify so it uses all the resources available?

any help is appreciated!

@bjtap

Hi

. . . . Many inaccurate classifications . . . .

Agreed.

The reset AI Classification option is under File, Settings, Default values, this removes all Classification entries.

initial testing suggests there is no way of editing the individual classification groups.

Classifications save fine for me, check that your Antivirus Folder protection feature is not blocking VDL 2026

. . . . the program doesn't use my physical graphics card . . . .

By default VDL 2026 will select an Intel iGPU if present, in the Program settings, Device options tab, Hardware acceleration option set the check the Import, Render and Export settings are set to the RTX 3060.

Note: Hardware acceleration for the RTX 3060 is limited to

  • H.264 (AVC) YUV 4:2:0
  • H.264 (AVC) YUV 4:4:4
  • H.264 (AVC) Lossless
  • H.265 (HEVC) 4K YUV 4:2:0
  • H.265 (HEVC) 4K YUV 4:4:4
  • H.265 (HEVC) 4K Lossless
  • H.265 (HEVC) 8K
  • HEVC 10-bit
  • HEVC B Frame

Not all of these formats are supported by VDL 2026.

Thanks for responding John!

I did find the GUI configuration settings and tried flipping between CPU and the GPU. And I Googled the graphics card when I activated the codec so I had a pretty good idea it wasn't going to be...blazingly fast. My hope is that there is a config file that will allow the use of both CPU and GPU.

I've also gone into task manager and tried setting the priority to "high" and then "real time". When I checked 30 and 60 minutes later, I didn't see a performance boost. Right now it's set back to "high" because "real time" caused everything else to drag.

I really wouldn't mind the time spent to flesh out the AI area if the data was permanent. But even when the system got to 100%, when I closed and reopened the program the AI folders were empty.

@Lew-G

Hi

. . . . I activated the codec so I had a pretty good idea it wasn't going to be...blazingly fast . . . .

Assuming the following:

  • The codec referred to is for HEVC/h.265 support

  • The iGPU and RTX drivers are up to date.

  • The Intel iGPU is available, ie it appears in the dropdowns for the 3 Hardware Acceleration options.

If not, check the BIOS settings to see if it has been disabled.

Additionally if the computer is a laptop, then, depending on the make/model, it may have a 'Hybrid' feature for utilising both GPU's my Lenovo has this.

The program will use the appropriate GPU, where possible using the RTX, as specified in the 3 dropdown options, for accelerating importing video, processing of effects etc, and export encoding.

From observation, when RTX acceleration is not possible, the software fallback appears to be to try the Intel iGPU then the CPU.

The gain you get from Hardware Acceleration depends on many factors:

  1. The video codec being imported/exported, eg HEVC/h.265 and AV1 are highly compressed making the decoding/encoding process CPU and GPU intensive.

  2. The Resolution, Frame rate, Bit rate and Bit depth of the imported video.

  3. The effects being applied, eg if using NeatVideo Denoiser the processing/exporting frame rate can drop dramatically to a few frames per second for 4K UHD video.

  4. The complexity of the project, the more timelines/movies or high track usage such as a complex collage put a significant load on the system.

ack on the things that could cause the video to process slowly - and I'm feeding it a day's worth of GoPro video...but if it's going to fail at the end, I would like that to happen sooner ;-) and eventually I'd like the AI to process and classify all of the GoPro data ~1.1Tb

about the folder and AV - I don't have anything in quarantine and there's no lock symbol or permissions change on the dll file or folder and I'm
