3 questions please....

v850tw wrote on 10/15/2017, 9:55 AM

(I just had to re-write all this because it disappeared?!)

1. Upon installing the latest Video Pro X with the Pink Splash Screen (I hate it) I am told at startup there is no online connection. The program is fully activated. Why is it doing this and how do I stop it.

2. In the Title program, is there a way to automatically have a partly transparent grey box behind the text that changes size depending on amount of text? Years ago, I had a titler that inserted a beveled text box with high light on 2 edges, like a frame behind the text, that grew or shrunk with the amount of text. It was a great feature.

3. I don't see all the basic wipes that most people do not use. Some are useful if they can be customized with soft edges. Am I missing something? I don't see them. I wish I could customize transitions such as a page peal or page turn.

So I guess no one can answer any of these questions... or did I break a rule to ask 3 in one post?

Scenestealer wrote on 10/20/2017, 11:13 PM

Yep.......3 strikes and you're out.

I can answer question 3. though - If you right click on the transition icon between the clips, you will see at the bottom of the context menu the word "Settings" if customisation is possible. Click on Settings and the Fades tab will open with the adjustments available at the bottom of the window. Page Peel (Standard>Leaf through) has several customisations available.

Question 2. If you add one of the "3D title templates > Decorative" you will find some buttons and boards that might suit and can be customised in the Magix 3D Maker window that opens. The board will stay the same size as you type and the type will get smaller to fit. Then select the title on the timeline and adjust the Size and Position of the whole with said effect window in the Effects tab.

Thanks for your reply. I knew that about right clicking... Although.. some things in Video Pro X escape me. I will see it the 3D titler can do what I am looking for. I just want to do a lot of text in presentations that are easy and fast to create.

Hi,

1. I haven't the online connection thing popup. I'll watch for it. Yes, the splash screen is ugly, everyone's a critic.

2. No. However, did you try out the captions? You don't have a lot of flexibility, but you may find something that you like.

Alternatively, make your own. Use one of the test images, like the blue one in the screen below or make up your own with a graphics program like Xara or Photo Designer 7 that comes with VPX and import it onto the timeline. Type in the text and resize the box behind it to the correct size, give it some transparency, change the colour if desired. Select the text and the box and on the Title tab, save them as an Effect. This will show up under Own and you can use it over and over. Just resize the box each time.

Hi

@v850tw

. . . . I am told at startup there is no online connection. The program is fully activated. Why is it doing this and how do I stop it. . . . .

Is the installation on a laptop connected by WiFi and Windows 10 Creators Edition (1703) is installed?

If so then I have noticed that my laptop occasionally does not connect to the WiFi automatically. It would appear that this is an issue with Windows 10, however all the fixes I have tried still will not let it consistently automatically connect.

If not check the Power Management settings, in Windows, are not set to hibernate the network card after a period of inactivity.

Thank you for this. I am running Windows 7 professional. The laptop is not normally connected to the internet because I do not run virus software. This screen popping up about no internet connection did not happen until the latest major update. I'll have to go back in to settings... maybe I have something set wrong for VPX in the settings.

One of 2 things could be happening:

  1. VPX is trying to call home to check/verify your licence, this, AFAIK, it must do once per month.

  2. Magix Network sync is trying to connect to the Internet and cannot. When you start VPX do you see the icon shown below?

Can you post a screen shot of the 'no online connection' message?

1. VPX NEVER CALLED HOME in the last version not unless I told it to. VPX won't work unless validated so why do it over and over? Only time I connected this computer to the internet was to download the update.

Unfortunately, perhaps, it does now, for the reasons that John EB gave you. It seems to be a "feature" of much modern software that it needs to check on its own status (and hence your "right" to use it) on a regular basis. I also run one of the Adobe Creative Cloud programs and it checks with the home server every time I use it. If I attempt to prevent the check, the app does not open, as you are seeing with VPX.

I seem to recall when I was researching VPX before I installed it, that there will be no annual upgrades, rather a continuous free update for the first 12 months. This is almost certainly why VPX is trying to go online each time, to check that you are within the 12 month free update period and to download any updates. My version updated within a few days of installing it with a 245mb update. If you don't go online you won't get any bug corrections, updates etc.

I bought this early in the year. It NEVER wanted to go online unless I used a feature that needed unlocked. This just started with this latest update with the ugly pink splash screen. I have done a ton of editing and never once did it put up this screen saying no connection.

Thank you for this. I close the connection window and edit. The program works as it should. As I said, this laptop is not online unless I have a reason for it. I use no virus software. Supposedly, vpx gathers specific info about your computer so it you were to install on a different computer, it would see it and stop you until you deactivate the other installation.

You can install and activate on two computers. If you want a third one, you have to deactivate one of the computers. I will try later opening VPX with the internet off to see what happens and report back.

So far as I know, VPX needs a connection once a month to check the license, but if there is no connection, it should keep on working. It also checks for updates. Thus if you haven't connected to the internet for a month, you can expect to see a message about connecting.

OK... I will connect up and edit. Then the next day will not connect and open and see. Thanks.
