32 tracks are supported but I have less

StevenDB wrote on 6/6/2018, 3:10 AM

I have a project and the last time I saved it, it had only 26 tracks. Now, 8 hours later, when I open it, I get the message that only 32 tracks are supported. How can I solve this?

@Magix: Why there isn't a check on save that one passes the 32 track threshold?

My specs: Movie Edit Pro version 17.0.3.177 UPD3
Windows 10 - Intel Core i7 6500U - 16GB RAM - 64 bit

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

Your version number is the latest, but which variant do you have, Standard, Plus or Premium? I wonder whether that has any bearing on this?

However, I assume you know you can select the number of tracks that are available. If you go to File>Settings>Movie (shortcut E) you will see this screen:

This is in the Premium version (notice, up to 200 tracks!!).

I'm a little confused by your question: you state that you closed the project when using 26 tracks, but then re-opened it and received the warning message. Can you explain a little more, please?

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your reply.
I have the standard version. I know the screenshot you posted, because I changed the amount of tracks from 16 (which was default) to 32, but that was - for me - the maximum.

I'm confused too :-) The last backup I can open contains 26 tracks. After that, I only edited the existing tracks. The only thing I can think of, is that I accidentally duplicated some tracks without noticing this, but I doubt that.

Then, I was hoping that the *.MVP file was an xml-formatted file that I could edit, but that's unfortunately not the case.

Hi again.

I see you wrote

The last backup I can open contains 26 tracks

I assume from this that you have a later version of the project but that it does not open and throws up the error message?

In which case, I fear that latest version has somehow become corrupted - unfortunately, it does happen! In which case I can only suggest opening the working backup, immediately resave it under a new name (i.e. "Save as..") and then continue with the editing on this renamed version.

Hi Jeff,

Indeed, any later version throws the error. I think you might be right that my project got corrupted, because the first backup that I cannot open anymore is the one just after restarting to edit on my project.

I'll do as you suggest and try to redo my lost work :-/

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jeff,
Just for your information, I think I found out what went wrong.

When I was working the other day on my project, I added a track before another existing track, by clicking on the little plus sign that says "Adds a track above this track".

Now, the day when I wasn't able anymore to open my project, I got an update to this 17.0.3.177 version. And, if I try to do the same in that version (as I had to redo my work), I immediately got the message that a max of 32 records is supported. So my guess is that there was (or still is) a bug in that functionality and in this latest version, they "solved" it by immediately throwing that message.

So, case closed, but no real solution...

@StevenDB

Thanks for the latest post and the update on why, apparently, you got this error.

No real solution, as you say, but at least we now know..!
