A let-down

Mike-D wrote on 5/12/2022, 10:16 AM

After successfully creating a small intro clip in Movie Studio 2022 and finding my way around some of the new ways of working I looked forward to editing a simple fixed-camera video of an hour-long talk with a bit of trimming and a fade-in/out. I began by adding a couple of markers, but after that the sound became out of sync and the video started jumping about. I tried again from scratch by starting a new project, but with the same awful results. I eventually had to use the Video Editor supplied with Windows, which managed the task in its limited fashion. Why am I paying for software that doesn't work?

@Mike-D

Hi

This is a known issue with some formats of video file.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse the video file and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo  on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip.

@Mike-D @johnebaker

Hi Mike.

I think the problem lies with the audio stream frame rate which would normally be at 46.785 FPS and not as in your example 31.250 FPS which is a non standard file format for normal video editing. If you try exporting such a file you will see the audio portion frame rate has been changed to 46.785 FPS and the most probable cause of the audio drift.

You may need to convert the file first to a more standard video file format using Handbrake or similar before editing.

Ray.

@Mike-D, @CubeAce

Hi

As @CubeAce has commented the audio samplerate of 32.0 kHz is too low for video - the standard is 48 kHz - and is most likely the cause of the issue, running the video clip through a converter such as Handbrake to get the audio samplerate to 48 kHz should fix the issue.

The audio FPS is calculated from the Samplerate and the number of samples per frame (SPF) - note this frame rate has nothing to do with the video framerate.
