Hi Graham.

Any third party effects have to be registered with the makers of the plugins on their sites where the codes are used in your accounts with them. So you have to open an account (If you don't already have one) with New Blue (or whoever) and register your copy with them there.

You do not have to renew the product each year. You can keep the functioning product you already have. You will not get any of the new plugins but the program will continue to run and can be downloaded from your account again if need be along with an activation code should you need to but you must keep your log in details and passwords to access them so don't lose or delete those emails. Make printed copies if you have to.

That isn't the case for Prodad Mercalli: I simply ran the installation file, then when I opened the Mercalli effect, it asked for the activation code, which I inserted, and that was it.

Something cock-eyed is going on here. I have just tried to activate the New Blue content pack and it failed.

Instructions from email:

a) Installing extra effects using coupon codes

Please use the coupon codes provided in this email to install additional effects for the Premium version.

1. Enter the coupon code directly in the Movie Edit Pro Premium interface ("Help" menu and then "Activate content pack(s)").

The installation setup will then start automatically.

2. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. You'll find the serial numbers for activating the extra effects in the program under "Effects"         "Extra effects", by clicking on the name of the manufacturer.

I'm getting a "Entered Coupon Code is invalid" message.

Ray, there's nothing to download/install; allegedly it's already in MEP, it just needs to be activated (at least initially), then something should occur after that.

BTW, the email with the instructions above also contains the activation codes to get the process started.

The instructions given by Magix in the email is wrong:

1) In MEP click the effects tab.

2) Scroll down to extra effects

3) Select the desired fx for download. (Click the download arrow).

4) As it downloads note the serial number just below the download arrow.

5) After installation the NewBlue Application Manager should open up. The effects will be listed and will have a place to click on to enter the serial number as it is unregistered.

I am not sure what to tell you. I have 5 newblues listed in my extra effects.

No matter which view you are in (list or icon: and you appear to be in list view) click on the arrow to the left of extra effects to expose the contents.

Perhaps try the scan icon.

@bjtap Thanks Barry, The plugins are for things like Virtual Dub plugins.

I think the process is failing right at the start for me and Graham; the activation code won't work so the installation, which gives you what you see, doesn't occur.

It appears you are not even seeing the newblue apps in the extra effects. All I can think of at this time is possibly try to reinstall MEP or contact Magix.

But. you also state the activation code won't work which implies you are seeing the newblues. If that is the case, be sure you enter the complete activation code. I say this because I used cut and paste to enter and for some reason the full activation serial number did not paste. I happened to be in contact with NewBlue at the time and they pointed out the incomplete serial number.

The activation code (from the email) is inserted into Help>Activate Content Pack as the initial step. I don't get to the point where I can insert the activation code you're talking about, which seems to be after the content pack has been "activated" and the NB item appears in Extra Effects.

I'll wait for other feedback and then get onto Support.

That number in the email is NOT and activation code. That is a coupon code. Follow the steps I showed above. You will not see the activation code until you start the download. For me, the coupon code was useless. BTW: I also tried to activate using the coupon code and of course, it did not work.

Barry, I can't. I don't have anything in Extra Effects to follow your steps (as shown in my screenshot).

In MEP go to the help menu and select activate contents pack. There you put in the coupon code. I believe you will get a message to go to the store to download the contents. It is NOT in the store. Restart MEP and hopefully at this point the 5 steps I mentioned above should work. I am still bothered by the fact you don't have anything in the extra effects .I believe with MEP Pro and MEP Pro Premium there should be a few New Blues. Hopefully, going to the activate contents pack under the help menu will at least get something in the extra effects. With all the misinformation from the Magix email I kept putting in the coupon code each time getting the message to the effect I have been credited with those NewBlues and go to the store to download them. It had nothing to do with the store.

Graham, no, it just means that your update service will stop after 12 months. You can keep using your current version ad infinitum.

BUT: make sure you save each update for your current version (2021) when they come along; if you have to re-install your current version using the installation file from the Magix website, you will not get any updates/bug fixes for it. You will only get the original (possibly buggy) version of 2021.

I got my working OK; I was using the wrong coupon! 😭

I was sent another email, when I entered the coupon code this morning, with the actual activation code on it (the same code that appears under the Download arrow).

After I entered the coupon, all the effects downloaded; once downloaded the small arrow on the "NewBlue Filters 5 Ultimate" appeared but I didn't get the big Download button.

I then put a video on the timeline, clicked it to highlight it, then clicked on one of the NewBlue filters at the bottom, and then the installer popped up:

After I shut down and re-started MEP. I got this:

So I created an account (yet another password to keep track of!).

Then, when I clicked on the video again, the effect control window came up:

I clicked Activate and got this window:

I inserted the Activation code from the email I got when I started this process (not the one I got my MEP order on) and I was finally in business (all those effects seem pretty gimmicky to me).

Fortunately, the ProDad procedure was very much simpler. Run the installer, you try to use it, when it protests you put in the code and that's it.

These thumbnails are a pain; is it only cost-cutting that we can't have the full size pics to look at when we open the thread?

@CubeAce Sort of. It's the sequence of events that stumps newbys. Step by step is better.

I know the thumbnails expand. I want them to be full size from the get-go without user intervention. Expanding and reducing each one and trying to remember the text at the same time is a pain.

Hi Alwyn,

The Samplitude forum has full size images - it's terrible having to scroll way down to get to the next message. It's much easier to see the thread and the other ones with the smaller images. BTW, Samplitude limiits your total uploads to an amount of MB; no such problem here.

Also, with full-size images, it takes more time because the large image has to be downloaded. If you're on a cell phone, you're using up precious bandwidth.

How come your screen shots are taken with a camera and not the normal way? They look terrible.

If you don't have a full sized keyboard with a 'print screen' button, how do you do that?

Windows+fn+space bar does not work on my system as suggested by Microsoft. Luckily I have two QWERTY keyboards connected.

Press the "Windows" key to display the Menu screen, type on-screen keyboard and then click On-Screen Keyboard

Click the PrtScn button to capture the screen, then paste as usual in your image editor.

You mean that someone would be editing video on a computer that doesn't have at least the function keys?

On my Surface Pro 4, PrtSc is on the F7 button. I have to press Fn first to get F7 or F9, as the main Windows features are the base.

I use Alt+PrtSc to get just the selected window, otherwise I get everything or, on my desktop, 2 screens.
