@Roger-Owen

Hi

AFAIK the special editions of Music Maker do not support adding 3rd party VST's, only the Plus and premium versions have that capability.

The Movie Score edition is relatively old and, if it does not have the Store tab, I would recommend you upgrade to the Music Maker 2020 Plus or Premium version.

If the Store tab is present then you would need to purchase the Creative Suite feature which adds VST support, however in the long run it would be better to update to the latest Plus or Premium version

Magix 2021 premium version is supposed to support VST2 and 3 formats.How do I make use of that?

Hi

. . . . supposed to support VST2 and 3 formats.How do I make use of that? . . . .

Out of the box Music Maker 2021 (MMM 2021) supports 64 bit VST's, however the support for VSTs depends on how you have obtained MMM and variant:.

  1. The free and Plus versions and upgrading using an older MMM serial number - do not include the necessary VST-Bridge to enable use of 32 bit VST's.

    The VST-Bridge is available in the Store for a fee, or purchase the full upgrade - if you are using the free version it will be more economical to purchase the Premium version to get all the functions, features, Soundpools and Instruments.

  2. Full or Upgrade purchase of the Premium version - the necessary VST-Bridge is included to be able to use 32 bit VSTs - did you install all of the extras that appear under the Download tab after activation..

I can confirm that MM2021 Premium does support both VST 2 and VST 3, 64 bit as previously advised.

So is your question really, how do you make MM "see" any installed VSTs? 64 bit VST 3s will install, by default, to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. If that is where your VST 3s are installed MM will find them automatically (you can check this by going to any Track, clicking the FX button, choosing "Audio FX Rack Track" then, on the screen that opens, click on the "+" sign at its lower left edge and choose "VST FX" where you should see any or all your VST 3s listed. The same process will work if your VST 2s are also in the "default" installation directory (I think!).

If you have your VST 2s installed in a different directory, go to File>Settings>Program (shortcut P), the Folders tab. Towards the bottom of that screen is a button labelled "Add VST plug-in path". Click it and then navigate to where your VST 2s are and click OK. You will then need to allow MM some time to scan and index your files.

Two followup questions.

(1) Does the "Add VST plug-in path" setting for VST2s override the default location or are both locations scanned?

(2) Can the default VST3 location be overridden or ignored?

I stopped using Music Maker 2020 because I couldn't control the number of plugins it scanned. I realize that this is somewhat unusual, but limiting the plugin list seen by each application is a requirement for me. That applies to both VST2 and VST3.

@rrichard63

Hi,

MMM2021 (version 29) - as far as I can tell, VST paths are kept in a file at:

C:\Users\Your_name\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\mm29

VstScanSetup_x64.ini

Open this in Notepad to see what you have. Here is what I have and I did not scan any folders after installing MMM2021:

IniVersion=10100
ScanPath:c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MAGIX Services\MxSynth\
ScanPath:C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker\29\MAGIX Plugins\
ScanPath:C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker\29\MxSynth\
ScanPath:C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins
ScanPath:C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
ScanPath:c:\Program Files (x86)\Vstplugins\
ScanPath:C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\Magix\VariVerb II\MAGIX\VariVerb II\

I suspect that some of these came from the previous version automatically.

When you scan another location, it will be added to the above file.

You can remove the VST3 line from the file if you want. Just be aware that there may be some useful plugins in there, in particular C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\iZotope

where I have:

iZNectarElements.dll
iZotope Nectar Elements.vst3
iZOzone7Elements.dll
iZOzone8Elements.dll
iZVocalDoubler.dll
Ozone 7 Elements.vst3
Ozone 8 Elements.vst3
Vocal Doubler.vst3

You may want to follow the other thread to see the problems raised so far with the new version.
