Suppose you have a fade transition time of 1.0 sec set between clips A and B. That's 0.5 secs (12½ frames) on either side of the join. When you zoom the timeline you can see that is how it is set, with the little marker circle half way between frames.
But that is impossible to set with the increase/decrease arrows in the trimmer itself. The marker then always coincides with an exact frame marker, never half way between them.
Which seems to imply that you cannot use the Object Trimmer to set precise fade times?
Can you post a screenshot of the object trimmer showing 12 1/2 frames.
Mine shows 13 frames for the left or right object for a fade through black - although if you look at the transition length it is 1.00 seconds ie 25 frames.
I think this may be due to rounding up of the 1/2 frame.

AFAICS you cannot set anything to half a frame.

Hi John,
Sorry, I scrambled that badly! I've now edited my original post to what I meant say. IOW, I agree entirely with you about it being impossible to show 12½ frames in the Object Trimmer. And I reckon you're probably right about that '13' being as close as the trimmer can get to showing what the timeline clearly shows as 12½:
But I think the conclusion is as I suggested, so it's impossible to use the Object Trimmer to set a fade of 0.5 seconds, for example (which you'll recall is what I was trying to do). The closest you can get is 12 or 13 frames, 0.48 or 0.52 s, about 4% error. Pity, given that the trimmer is meant to be a precision tool.
That is correct. The Object Trimmer is one of the oldest features in the
software. It is limited by design to frame-accurate control (which is
obviously pretty accurate), while other parts of the video engine can now
already go beyond frame-accurate editing. We don't expect any changes to the
Object Trimmer, since this is also a rarely-used feature for most customers.
