i am trying to add movement to a png file with in a video to make it zoom on slowly but when ever i drop it from the movemnt section it just show a picture of a beach. I have done this before with no issues using the same technique. Can you help me?
There is a little confusion here - your signature says you are using MEP 2016, however you have posted in the VPX section of the forum
. . . . when ever i drop it from the movemnt section it just show a picture of a beach . . . .
This suggests either:
VPX only - the Program monitor is not displayed - press Shift + V to turn on the Program monitor of F9 to reset the window layout
or
VPX and MEP - you are clicking on the small play button that appears when the mouse pointer is over the effect, try dragging by clicking and dragging above the play arrow or select the image and then click the down pointing arrow to the right of the the play button.
I am using video pro x. When i drag the effect onto it i just get a picture of the beach doing the effect . if i push the play button it shows it in the preview window and when i hit the arrow pointing down it does nothing. however if i drag it on to video it does apply the effect to the video.
However, I notice you wrote if i drag it on to video it does apply the effect to the video. which seems to confirm that you actually see the same thing. If so, I really don't understand the reason for your question, or am I missing something obvious?

"When i drag the effect onto it i just get a picture of the beach doing the effect " Onto what?
As shown in John EB's video, if you drag the effect into the source monitor, it plays the source, which is just to show what the effect does. When you drag the effect onto the video clip on the timeline, you say it works, same as in John EB's video.
Is the problem that you want to see the effect in the source monitor before applying it but using your png rather than the beach scene?
If so, then you have to first select the png file, then do the preview. The effect will be applied in the Source monitor to the selected file that is on the timeline.
In John EB's clip, he did not select the png file, so the beach scene played. I presume that you did not select the png file either.

Are you are clicking the Source monitor play button?
Look closely again at my video clip at 29 secs (after the effect has been applied) - you will see that I am clicking the play button under the Program monitor - this is the same as playing the timeline - and in John CB's example at 25 secs the timeline is played - I assume using the space bar.
Yes, at 25s, I first scrubbed using the mouse then hit spacebar.
The whole thing gets down to seeing a preview of an effect in the source monitor. If a clip is selected, clicking on the play effect button in the media pool plays the effect applied to the selected clip but in the Source monitor. With no clip selected, playing/previewing an effect is done on the beach scene.
This was the first time that I noticed how this works.
I am using version 15.0.5.211. i tried it in a new project and it worked even though there was no video in the time line. good it be an error in the project?
