Adding Section Keyframes for Movement Effects - Movie Edit Pro 2013

vernonr wrote on 9/10/2013, 11:25 AM

I'm trying to work out how to add keyframes for sections in Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus.

I want to cover jump cuts in video - which I could do it I could work out how to change the section of the video shown instantaneously - whilst keeping the overall size and position of the screen constant.

The buttons to add keyframes for sections are often grayed out - as is the fill screen checkbox.

Anybody got insights into how to enable them? In addition there seems to be a lot of interactions between the section and size/position effects. So changes in the section dialog can affect the size/position dialog

Is this what you are trying to do - Jump cuts ?

Thanks for engaging...

It's not the bit I'm struggling with - the cutting (forming the jump cut) is fairly trivial. It's the next bit I'm trying to do if the real challenge.

The conventional way filmmakers avoid the subject appearing to "jump" between adjacent sections formed by a jump cut is to change the viewpoint at the same time. (e.g. changing from showing complete top half of body - to the head & shoulders). This ought to be possible with Movie Edit Pro - and I suspect that keyframes and sections hold the answer.

Hi John,

I took a look at that short video and left this comment:

Yes, that's  what I would call a series of cross-fades, not jump cuts.

And the cross-fade transitions could be implemented more easily by applying the first automatically and then using 'Apply to all'.

Hi Vernon,

You're right, that's the way to do it. Try using different Size/Position settings on identical  LH and RH clips respectively, butted against each other.

I'm not at my PC right now (using iPad) but  come back if you want me to illustrate later.

Hi Terry, John

Think I've finally done it. The section dialog sets the proportion of the video/image to be shown for the duration of the object. MEP 2013 doesn't appear to be able to associate differing section for each keyframe within ONE object.

So the task is to get the section settings stored along with the first keyframe in each object in the above scenario. If you change the settings at the right point - you can eventually get MEP to store the section settings along with the size/position settings for an initial keyframe in an object.

When you transition to the next object the proportion of the image shown (set in the section dialog) changes.

The attached image is 960*1080. The light blue box within it is 800*900; and the darker blue box is 400*450. The size/position settings for initial keyframes in all 3 objects (960,0,960,1080) - so it appears at the right hand side of a 1920*1080 screen. The section dialog settings are respectively.

Object 1 : 960,0,960,1080

Object 2 : 808,76,916,82

Object 3 : 416,270,468,304

The rendered 6 second video ( which doesn't have sound) shows what happens - the box on the right hand side of the screen doesn't move but is zoomed in as the video proceeds - with the transition happening instantly as the object change occurs.

Final image is of the setup in Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013

Hope this helps others who might be trying to achieve similar things...

Hello

I get the keyframe display up with its keyframes. I can alter size and position but I want to use rotation.

How do i get rotation keyframes to show and then to animate. If I alter a leter one the first one gets the later one's info.

I want to tilt a picture so it looks like the camera is moving up.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Hi,

I'd recommend you start a new thread rather than piggy-back on this two month old diffrerent question.

Also please tell us what version of MEP you're using. And provide more information on exactly what result you want on the screen.

If you rotate an object with no further resizing or 3D distortion then it will have outlying black areas. And the effect of the camera 'moving up' could also be said to describe panning. A screenshot or link of an example would be helpful.
