I purchased the MPEG4 codec for my Movie Edit Pro 14 software. I'm running Windows 10. When I enter the activation code, it tells me I need administrator rights. How do obtain those rights? I thought I was automatically the administrator? The program is registered but, I have zero clue on how to proceed.

In Windows there are 2 levels of Administrator, your admin account is the lower security permissions level.
To run the program with full administrator privileges right click the program shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator.
However - there is potentially a bigger issue

Assuming you do mean Movie Edit Pro 14 - from 2008, and not Movie Edit Pro 2014, it is not compatible with Windows 10 and may not work correctly, and you may find that some functions no longer work or give an error message, the most common issue known is not being able to burn a project to DVD - the DVD burner is not recognised. The last version of Windows it was certified to work on was Windows XP
I assume the program was it installed on an earlier version of Windows eg 7 or 8 and then upgraded to Windows 10 - is this correct?

I do not understand this because all versions of Movie Edit Pro old and new do not require you to purchase the MPEG4 codec? It only needs to be activated for free on first use if I remember correctly.
In newer versions from 2015 on, which started using the Intel encoder you can purchase the Main Concept MPEG4 codec / encoder in addition, but MEP14 and MEP2014 came with only the Main Concept and no other choice.
