American English keyboards, can't find C

bstmichael wrote on 10/17/2012, 2:41 PM

I've got a problem with my American English keyboard.  I just purchased Magix Music Maker 2013 Premium. I wanted to use my Windows keyboard to play a midi but can't find all of the notes.

If:

V key is the note G

C key is the note F

X key is the note E

and the key "Z" is the note D ... just where is the C note???

I don't recognize the character to the left of Z.  It looks like | or I but doesn't play the C note. What am I doing wrong?

Hi

If you follow the sequence through ie

    |      Z     X     C     V      B      N     M     <      >

    C     D     E     F     G      A      B      C     D     E

However there is an easier way - if you select the keyboerd it should show you which keys are assigned to which notes as shown below

Note not all instruments sound the lower C ( | key)

Hi,

@johnebaker, the problem is that the American keyboard does not have the key shown on the keyboard in Music Maker.  A typical American keyboard looks like this.

I have a Canadia keyboard so I do have that key.  I have tried every combination that I can think of to get the low C note with other keys on my keyboard to no avail.

Hi

@George  I was aware of the difference between the keyboard layouts.

IIRC it is the keycode that is transmitted from the keyboard to the PC that matters so pressing \ should still play a note in C.

Seems that a standard keyboard layout is anything but standard - US keyboard layout is  to the older ANSI standard (from 1970's) instead of the newer (2009) ISO standard.

Do you have ISO standard keyboards available in the US?

As to which standard is correct I am not going to argue about!!!!!
