Audio but no video

Blackyuu wrote on 11/14/2018, 7:51 AM

I'm sorry if this has been answered before I searched a little bit and didn't find the answer.

I downloaded a video from my twitch account and tried to put it in the Magix program and I have the audio for the whole video but only a few seconds of the video at the beginning and the ending of the video, the rest is a black screen. Any idea how I can fix it?

If any other information is necessary I'd be happy to give them to you but I don't know much about computer, I'll do as good as I can.

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

First, please read this post and give us all the information requested.

Second, in order to help to diagnose the problem with your file, please download and install the free MediaInfo utility. Once installed, point it to your video file and post to a future reply the results of the Tree view. That will tell us a lot about the actual file.

With all this information we may have some chance of being able to advise you.

Hi. Thanks for this additional information. I have a very similar CPU in my machine so there's certainly nothing amiss there. But what about Hard Disc, type and free space? Also, which variant of MEP, Basic, Plus or Premium?

First, I'm pretty sure you are not running the latest build of MEP 16, so can you first try Help>Check for updates?

Second, have you tried playing back the footage using MEP's facility to Reduce Resolution, the lightning flash at the bottom right of the playback screen? If so, with what result?

Third, do you have any other video playing software on your computer that you could use to verify that the file can be played back properly?

I'm not sure about the terms but I think I have a SSD with 14gB free space out of 117GB also a HDD with 870 GB free space out of 1.81 TB

I'm using the basic version of Magix. I just updated it and still no result.

Tried the Reduce Resolution, the lightning flash at the bottom right and nothing changed.

I used VLC and it opened the video correctly.

Thanks again for the further information.

You say you have an SSD with 14GB free space and an HDD with 870GB. The fact of the SSD having only 14GB "free" would worry me, I have to say, but, more importantly, does that SSD have Windows and your programs (including MEP) on it? Where do you store the video files? Hopefully, not also on the SSD.

The fact that VLC can play the file correctly shows that it is possible but that may be the case because VLC includes all the needed codecs.

As fellow-users we always recommend using at least the Plus version of MEP since both it and the Premium version are rather better specified than the basic version. However, that clearly does not help you now!

Given that the video file you're having problems with is "only" some 556MB in size, comparatively small for a video of over 24 minutes, I wonder whether you can post it to a file sharing site so that I, and perhaps others, could download it and test it on their machines? If you do not wish to make the download publicly available I'm quite happy for you to PM a link to me. I am using the latest version of MEP Premium but at least we can see whether any version of MEP can handle your file!

As I said I know nothing about computer and as much as I want to make room on my SSD I don't know what to delete or what I can and can't change location so I always end up abandonning the process. The video files are on the HDD all the time. I have no idea how to share that video with you I've never done that. I bought the basic version a couple years ago and I can't spare money for now to get a better version. This video i a video I downloaded from my twitch livestream to edit and put it back because that way is the best quality I can have. If there is no way for me to edit it with this version the MEP I have other ways to aquire that video but in poor quality. I'll just have to do it that way for now. Thank you for your help, I appreciate that you've spent all this time trying to help me!
