Audio Cleaning Lab 4 "Error While Writing Noise Sample File"

AndrewM wrote on 7/14/2025, 6:48 AM

Reported this through support [Ticket# Removed by Moderator] on 25 June 2025 and chased again on 7 July and still no response. Is Magix support no longer active?

For any presets in Audio Cleaning Lab which use the DeNoiser, this error comes up. I have checked permissions, uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled and always the same issue.

Is Audio Cleaning Lab 4 actually supported any more, and will there be a fix for this, or is it no abandonware - in which case, why are Magix still selling it?

@AndrewM Yeah, it's an annoying message but it seems to be enough to click the message away and then to close/open the Denoiser once to see the correct noise spectrum.

This error doesn't appear in the 32 Bit version of Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 4. So if you installed that version as well then try to do denoising there.

The app is out of development. There will be no fix. It's definitely a bug. It wasn't there in version 3.

Currently Magix is undergoing a complete restructure of their support. It seems you cannot reach them easily at this moment.

Thanks for that. I also have Sound Forge Audio Studio 17 and looking at whether Sound Forge Audio Pro 18 with its cleanup tools (at the current pretty reasonable upgrade price it has) might be worth moving to at this point.

@AndrewM If you get Sound Forge Pro Suite with the newest SpectraLayers Pro you basically have the state-of-the-art audio restoration. The audio cleaning tools in Sound Forge Pro itself are ancient. Probably older than in Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab which is based on Samplitude. I'm taking about 20+ years old.

Thanks for that. Interestingly, SoundForge Pro 18 comes with "Noise Reduction Plugin 2.0" which does seem quite good and would, I would assume, be new(ish).

@AndrewM

Hi,

See the video below that I did about the problems with SFACL4. I have been after Magix for 2 years. All tickets to support with reminders are appreciated. Magix should be embarrassed to have this product go out with such obvious bugs, especially upon startup. As you say, they still sell it so they should at least fix the obvious and well-known bugs.

My forays into Sound Forge Pro 16 have met with abject failure. It is not easy to use, at least not for me. Apply any of the effects buttons on the screen, like noise reduction, then select another one. As far as I can figure, the first one is applied and cannot just be opened for tweaking. It would have to be in a chain to do this, I guess. In any event, I find it all too complicated for what should be simple. It comes with SpectraLayers Pro 11 if you get the Suite - expensive. Note that SpectraLayers Pro 12 has just come out.

In SFACL4, apply an effect to the project or object and it is highlighted, that is, turned on. You can go back, open it and modify it. Simple and powerful.

SFACL4 has the Magix Spectral Editor which is great for removing unwanted short noises or unwanted sounds (not continuous). Sound Forge has no such thing...except going to SpectraLayers which has a steep learning curve.

SFACL4 has SpectraLayers Elements and you can run it as a standalone since it doesn't work under ARA. It comes with a simple unmix feature and I think it comes with some effects like denoise. With SFACL4, you also get iZotope RX 10 Elements which has some effects like Speech Denoise and Repair Assistant. There are others on the market.

Feel free to reply to your Magix ticket with a link to the video.

@browj2 You'll usually get the newest SpectraLayers version when registering a serial number at Steinberg, so that should be version 12, even if Sound Forge Pro Suite only comes with 11.

Right about NOW; MAGIX is libellous comment removed. I have had numerous issues with several different versions of MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab but I have also had some success as well. I admit I love the software when it works correctly how ever, I am running into more issues not only with the software but also with the website and getting through to ANY type of support. STOP ALREADY! STOP selling faulty software to your loyal customers. FIX it RIGHT and COMPLETLY and STOP giving us a 6 for a 9.

@Glenn-Duran Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab is a "legacy" application. It's now going multiple years without updates and there will likely be none in the future. The support already knows all these bugs from user reports.

To reach support click on the Support menu link at the top of this screen, then scroll down to the bottom of the next page to create a ticket.

We have all tried to reach support and hear absolutely nothing - but they are STILL actively selling this product. That is what is frustrating so many of us (and is at the very least unethical). I don't have an issue with them trying to sell the product (at a reduced costs) IF they at the same time clearly state the fact that it is no longer being developed, fixed and/or supported together with details of the known issues. By selling it "as new" implies it is a supported product, which must be against some countries advertising laws.

SP. wrote on 7/21/2025, 2:52 AM

@Glenn-Duran There is no law that forces a developer to support anything. Back before Internet was fast enough you got a disk with your software and there were no bugfixes until the next version which was paid again, of course.

AndrewM wrote on 7/21/2025, 3:10 AM

I'm not saying they should be forced to support it - however, advertising standards (and therefore, I would expect, product pages on websites) should not be implying that the product is a fully supported product

CLEANING AND EDITING YOUR RECORDINGS IS NOW EVEN EASIER Remove noise from audio files and optimize the sound of recordings and video audio. Digitize vintage recordings and achieve perfect, clean sound for your old records, CDs and cassettes. Make custom edits and mixes of your media. SOUND FORGE Audio Cleaning Lab 4: The fourth generation of this all-around tool delivers impressive workflows and innovative effect presets as well as powerful cleaning and mastering plug-ins from iZotope.

as this implies it is a fully supported product that people are buying. Most other developers are very clear about legacy products that are no longer supported - whilst still selling them, clearly showing them as abandonware and therefore purchasers knowing what they are getting into.

SP. wrote on 7/21/2025, 3:46 AM

@AndrewM I mean, the software does what you quoted.
