I have used audio dubbing to supply a commentary very often. Suddenly the dubbed sound does not appear on the video I am editing. The sound level on the record screen shows the correct volume variation but nothing is recorded. What do I do?
Many thanks for all your suggestions, most of which I had tried. I gave up in disgust last night, came in this morning and the audio dubbing is working well. It must be Magic!!
It is possible under some conditions for an application to lose contact with the audio driver in an application. This does not happen often but when it does the easiest way to restore audio to a program is just to restart Windows using the restart option in the shutdown section of Windows as this resets the operating system, releasing the audio drivers from whatever has taken them over.
If a track has been selected and the audio object doesn't fit into the space at the playback marker, like in your image between the two audio objects, then the recording will be place at the of everything on that track.
In the image, the playback marker was as shown, but the recording didn't fit into the space available. It was put at the end of the track.
This happens to me when I need to put in some narration in the middle of the track (fix what I messed up). The space available is insufficient and I don't see it because the next object is beyond the window. And I'm reading the text, not watching the screen to see that my space ran out. Then I look for the object just recorded.
So, number 8 would be something like:
If you've selected a track for the recording to be placed on and there is insufficient space from the playback marker to the next object for the length of the recording, then the recording will be placed after the last object on that track.
. . . . If a track has been selected and the audio object doesn't fit into the space at the playback marker . . . .
Good point, I used a different workflow on the few talky tutorials I did.
I recorded the audio separately on to my digital audio recorder - helps with the reverb of the room and editing later - too small a gap stretch the video a bit or insert a still image.
