Audio mixdown - Edit in External Audio Editor

browj2 wrote on 4/6/2018, 12:46 PM

MEP 2018 Plus (17.0.2.166)

Occasionally, depending on the version, when I right-click on the audio portion of a video clip, I see "Edit wave externally - Alt+Z." In the current version of MEP, I don't see it. Same video clip in MEP 2016 Premium (15.0.0.114), it's on the list.

Bug?

The text below was copied from the 2018 manual, page 205. Where is this in the program? "Processing menu?"

"Mixdown of audio objects

If the project window becomes too full to manage, the system is out of RAM, or you just want to "summarize" your production, use the mix down function to convert the entire audio arrangement into a single audio file. Just click on the mix down button in the button bar or select the function from the "Processing" menu."

The answer is that it's under the Edit menu as "Combine audio." The shortcut to do a mixdown (combine audio) is Shift+D. It would be nice if Magix could get the manual and the program to have the same terminology.

If you do a mixdown, then the External audio editor shows up on the combined wav file. But what if I only want to edit the audio from one video clip? This can't be done in my version of 2018.

Trying to do an Alt+Z on the audio of a video clip does not cause the external editor to open.

Is this the same for others?

Thanks,

John CB

Hi

. . . . Occasionally, depending on the version, when I right-click on the audio portion of a video clip, I see "Edit wave externally - Alt+Z." In the current version of MEP, I don't see it. . . . .

It is still there on mine (17.0.2.166) - tested on AVCHD and MP4 files -

and for the separate tracks

This may seem like a dumb question - do you have an external audio editor specified in the program settings?

Hi John,

Thanks for checking.

Yes, I do have an external audio editor specified in the program settings. I also tried changing from ME3 to AML, to no avail. I have had this intermittently, sometimes it works on one computer but not on the other for the same version of the same program, both with MEP and VPX. Right now, I don't have the option in the latest MEP on both computers. I first have to do a mixdown. Strange.

I tried using Sound Forge Audio Studio 12 (obtained with Humble Bundle) as the external editor and it works fine. I just don't have the eFX essentials that I have with Audio & Music Lab. I presume that Magix also made the new Sound Forge Pro 12 work the same way as the external audio editor with MEP and VPX. Too costly for me to justify.

Thanks,

John CB

Hi,

common problem to all software developer lack of ressources. Programmors made code to build the software but normaly cannot write help menu or manual. Imagine the number of new products in Magix, write software, test software, write help menu, adapt manual. Now new problem, many languages before only English was use. Plus new law in USA must be add subtitle in the next year, plus new functions to add or made better. A lot of work to do..

Regards,
