Audio problem with Magix MEP 2015 plus

Rab_Fixit wrote on 2/12/2026, 11:30 AM

I have lots of footage using HD camera with 5.1 surround sound in AC-3 format. I used to edit this with no problems, until I got a new PC with Window 11 and reinstalled MEP 2015. When I try to load this footage to the timeline it says I need a free update (I think it might be related to Dolby sound), but this will not download or install. If I ignore message, footage plays fine and the mixer shows the correct surround channels (5.1). However, when trying to author the project for Blu-ray, I get the same message about needing this download, which I ignore, and then the encoding is aborted with Error No. 5. If I switch format to Stereo sound, everything is fine.

I think I need to upgrade my video edit software, as I really want to be able to edit this footage retaining the surround sound. Will Video deluxe plus or premium enable me to edit these AC-3, 5.1 channel files and output surround in another format (AAC?)? I want to burn Blu-ray disks for some of the movies too. I believe this is all the result of Dolby licensing being withdrawn?

Thanks for your advice

@Rab_Fixit

Hi.

Yes that function was withdrawn and probably would not work if the program was reinstalled.

There are non commercial Dolby Atmos licences available for music daws now but they are incredibly expensive. Similar to how the original Dolby 5.1 individual licence was way back when.

5.1 audio export is available if you export to WMV but that is the only option in MEP now, and I'm not sure but the current Vegas Pro may still be able to export Dolby 5.1. Check the Vegas forums for that. There is a button at the bottom of this page that will take you to the Vegas Forums.

Thanks, Ray. That confirms what I thought. I'll export as WMV and then I can convert to AC-3 using third-party software. I'll probably move away from Blu-ray anyway (old tech now!) and store files on my Media PC. The only surround format my Denon AV amp can decode is Dolby or DTS (in various flavours), so I am stuck with this process. At least I can still import and edit in 5.1. Just ignore the download message. Sadly, I see no significant benefit in upgrading my Magix version at this time.
