My setup in Soundforge Pro 14(build 112) works, but only records in mono (single track summed). In Cakewalk Bandlab it shows left and right waveforms with same setup. I am obviously missing something. Help?
I see a bunch. I see it up so that I am using ASIO in channels five and six (stereo pair) for record and ASIO 32/32 for playback. I have also tried some different combos but the end result is that only a summed mono channel results. This setup works perfectly with Bandlab's Cakewalk, I get a true stereo channel with the ASIO 5/6 record and ASIO 31/32 playback.
Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @OKJmonk.
More specific information would be helpful.. like are you using an internal soundcard or external audio interface, make, model, the audio source and connection/connector type.
That said.. Go to "File" and choose "New", in the channels parameter, select 2 (stereo) Also go to "Options> Preferences> Audio" and confirm the audio record device type is routed to channel 1 - Left ... channel 2 - Right,
Here is a basic record cheat sheet
- Go to "Options> Preferences> Audio" and select the 'Record' tab. - Confirm or select the desired record device type , - Select "File> New" and set sample rate and bit depth parameters - Go to "View> Record options" and make an other parameter changes if so desired. - Leave the "Record options" window open and select "Arm" (shortcut: Ctrl+ Shift+ A) - Viewing the record level meters in the Record options window, make any necessary record level adjustments at the audio source or interface input. - Commence recording by selecting "Record" in the transport (shortcut: Ctrl+ R) .
btw, Typically, the 44.1kHz audio sample rate is for music and other audio only material, 48kHz is the standard 'audio for video' sample rate. I would recommend saving and editing in a PCM <.wav> file format. Subsequent MP3, M4a or other lossy format files can be encoded from the PCM master for end user distribution.
I am using an EMU1820m soundcard. Has an external box connected by a CAT6 cable. Will do resolutions up to 192k. Usually I use 44.1 or 48k. My record is ASIO stereo 5/6 on channel one. Playback is ASIO 31/32. Channel records perfectly in Cakewalk. Two waveforms. When I go to view and options/recording, I get a summed mono showing on the left meter even though I hear sound our of both channels on the monitors. If I select the track "1" for ASIO 5 and "2" with ASIO 6, I get nothing. Channel meter shows nothing during record but does on playback with "1" split in two. I am recording from a keyboard through a Mackie LM3204 analog mixer. Two channels no issue.
I am not familiar with that interface device. To eliminate playback issues, do other stereo audio files playback normally?
"My record is ASIO stereo 5/6 on channel one". - This would indicate a stereo signal being summed to Sound Forge's left channel, After recording, do you see a waveform on upper channel (left / 1) on the timeline and nothing on the bottom timeline channel (right / 2) ?
That is correct. I played around with the sound card mixer routings and while I can get a solid signal on the top of the recording monitor, I get a jittery "signal there" green on the bottom (2) but nothing records there.
Try a non-ASIO driver type. The Classic Wave driver and Ms Sound Mapper are pretty much trouble free in Sound Forge. You could try ASIO-for-all ' as well.
Got it to work with the ASIO drivers. Set it right in the preferences but had to make sure it matched with the "1" and "2" in the record left and right. Once that was done, I got stereo recording. Thanks for the help.
