audio studio 7 and windows 8 compatibility

monkeybagz wrote on 5/16/2013, 6:11 PM

I recently bought a new computer with windows8, and am having an issue running audio studio 7 (which is seemingly obsolete, but I like it). Well, it runs fine, but I can't seem to change the recording source....

Track information -> Track record options -> Record Device -> (only microphone is available). On my last computer I was able to select Speaker output (or something like that) from the dropdown list, allowing me, for example, to record audio in realtime from a dvd that was playing on the computer.

Am I overlooking something to get this to work, or is there another way to do what I want?

Hope it's an easy fix, thank you,

Adam

Please allow me to re-phrase your questton....Audio Studio 7 runs fine....BUT it isn't working.  It reminds me of an old car  I had....it would get 100 MPG, but i never could get it to start !!!  Yu bought a new computer so pony up a few more bucks and get newer software....that runs fine and works

Hi

I agree with Gnarly - upgrade to the latest version.

You have hit a common problem with old software and Windows 8 ie it works fine except . . . .

It is not working fine, because the software is not 100% compatible with Windows 8.

ok, so i've "ponied up a few bucks" for music studio 2013 (thanks...i would have merely consulted my wallet for that kind of advice in the first place....) and now have worse problems. all i want to do is plug in a microphone (or any line-in device) and record, and that doesn't even work. best result i get is my microphone becoming a speaker. i didn't even know that could happen! i've tried usb and regular audio jacked mics; neither seems to be recognized properly by my computer. i've searched in the control panel as well as recording options in the program itself to no avail. can anyone provide insight on how my equipment can cooperate?

thanks again

Hi

What is the specification of your computer and make/model of sound card?

. . . . best result i get is my microphone becoming a speaker . . .

I would suspect that at some point the audio inputs you are plugging the regular microphone into have become 'locked' for use with speakers.  Possible fixes depend on which sound card is installed eg for Realtek and IDT the two options are shown below .

Did Windows 8 recognise the USB micropnhone and install drivers the first time it was plugged in?

If the drivers are installed, plug the usb microphone in before startng Music Studio - it will appear in the recording options as a 'USB microphone' or something similar.

If it is not there, then check Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers to see if a device has not been recognised as shown below (this is from Win 7 however Win 8 is similar)
