Audio Sync Problem with Movie Edit Pro MX

rwboud wrote on 2/17/2017, 11:08 AM

Looks like I originally posted to the wrong place and got 'told off'!  Sorry.  I have just captured a VHS to my computer and started a project with Movie Edit Pro MX.   All fine - until I came to cutting out unwanted parts.   When I came to the portion to remove, I used 'split' at both ends and then when it was isolated, I deleted.    It is at this stage that the sound goes out of sync.   It would seem that although the video has been deleted the sound has not.    When the unedited version is played there is no problem with the sound or when I make a split to add a title.

I have been asked for the following information: My sound card is AMD High Definition Device, the file ext is .mpg.  My system was updated to Windows 10 nearly a year ago.  I have no idea what the 'chipset' is or the card driver version.   This is the first time I have tried to use Magix with VHS but have used it for digital files and editing with no problems.

From the number of posts on this subject, it seems I am not alone.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated as at the moment I have to complete my project with the 'bad' stuff included.  Please keep it simple!

Hi

. . . . the file ext is .mpg . . . . From the number of posts on this subject, it seems I am not alone . . . .

That is what I suspected when you posted in another members topic - this is a common problem with mpg files, other video formats sync audio to video in a different manner.

To fix this for existing video see the image below

You can also set this in the programs settings as shown below

Hi

Many thanks. I'll give it a try. Too late tonight!  I'll come back to you with the results, if I may.

Best wishes

Hi John

Have now had a chance to try out your suggestions and the result is that there was no change with the first one whilst on current project. However I changed the programme setting as you suggested and re-imported the project under a different name and........ a couple of edits I've now tried where I'm removing some rubbish, now seems to keep the sound in sync.

Many thanks for your assistance in this matter. Much appreciated and a great saving on frustration!

Best wishes

Roger

Sorry, spoke too soon!    Come back to editing and find the same problem as re-appeared.  As soon as I cut out a clip - the audio sync is out.    Have checked the programme settings and the change you suggested is still enabled.  Also tried again right-clicking on a clip and then the new timeframe.  No change I'm afraid.  The cuts I made yesterday are still ok.   Strange.  Any other suggestions?

Hi

If you have a video clip that is not confidential and is showing this problem can you upload it to somewhere like Dropbox, for us to test, do not use Youtube,Vimeo, the forum, etc, to upload - they convert the video which is not what we want.

If you prefer not to upload a clip, can you analyse one of the clips that is showing this problem with MediaInfo and post the results from the Tree view.

Hi John

Excuse my ignorance but I'm having trouble with Dropbox and Mediainfo.  Have downloaded both programmes and have managed to get the project file I'm working on on both.   The saved project in the Magix file is an.MVP ext although it loads as .MPG.   It's MVP on Dropbox which says it cannot be previewed?  However I'm at a loss how to and find how I actually upload to you.   Is there an email address I send it to?   Same goes for Mediainfo  - how do I get this to you?

rwboud wrote on 2/19/2017, 6:18 AM

https://www.dropbox.com/home        Not sure if this is correct?

emmrecs wrote on 2/19/2017, 7:34 AM

Your second link works, BUT all you have uploaded is the MVP file, which contains nothing other than a scrolling title at the beginning and another one approximately 1 minute 46 seconds in!

What we need is a very short section of your original video file which, if you make any cuts, does not then play audio properly.

I suggest you create such a section, perhaps maximum 20 seconds long, and then export it as an MPG (that is the format of the original, I think) - you do this by marking that 20 seconds as a range and then choosing to export that range - and then post that file to Dropbox.

That way, we will have access to a short section of the exact file you are having problems with!

Did you try Jeff's suggestion yet, to upload a short section of the troublesome video file?

I did reply to Jeff but it doesn't seem to have appeared in this thread!   Whilst trying to work out how to isolate a range and how to get this to Dropbox, I played around with a few clips that would better show when the sound did not sync when a cut was made.   Low and behold, after a few attempts the audio suddenly came into line.    I don't know what I did but managed to complete the project and go on to burn a DVD.   Hope the other VHS tapes work OK.   Changing the programme settings made the most significant change, thanks to John and then the gremlins returned! .   My thanks to all who have contributed.

Pleased to hear the problem's resolved - even if its cause remains something of a mystery!

If you're having difficulties with some of the basics (like setting a test range for export as you mention) then I'd suggest you study the PDF manual via Help > Manual (PDF) and John Brown's tutorial here:

https://www.magix.info/de/tutorials/movie-edit-pro-2015-getting-started--1138734/

Fast way to set a range: click the timeline so that the orange marker jumps to the start of the range and press the I (for In) key, then click again at the end and press O (for Out). The range is then shown in blue.

Hi Terry

Just watched video and found it very useful.  As they say "If all else fails - read the instructions!"    Also thanks for the info re the 'Range'

I am using Magix ProX14 and have created a video file after 2 days of editing. I was having problems with some of the content having serious audio video slippage. Finally managed to create a full 1920x1080P50 file 6.5GB with no issues. Now trying to reduce the video size to send to a client for assessment using the HD file. Whenever I export this now it creates a lower quality file but the audio and video is miles out of sync, anyone any ideas please? I have never had this issue before until now.
