I have MEP Premium 2021. I'm trying to import .avi files. I get the message:
the file "------" cannot be read! Please make sure the drive is not full or write protected.
I've installed the additional MP4 codec and selected use "main concept" in settings.
@Don-Scott9909 Don, MEP can open AVIs, but if they are not internally supported, you'll need to have the video codec for the AVI installed on your computer. Could you please install Mediainfo and open your AVI in it.
On the View menu, choose the Text view, then copy and paste the whole report here. We can then advise how to get the codec installed.
The "MP4" codec isn't normally in the AVI file type so installing the Main Concept MP4 encoder probably won't help.

If you're comfortable with computers, you can try Installing FFDSHow 64 bit from here:
https://www.videohelp.com/software/ffdshow
(make sure you install the 64 bit version).
Go through the installation process and on the Video Decoder config page, enable "Other MPEG 4" (which includes the SEDG codec) by selecting "libavcodec" from the dropdown:
Restart MEP and see if you can open the file.
If that is a bit daunting and you are comfortable doing so, could you upload one of your smaller AVIs to this forum (use the up-pointing arrow above the post entry box) so we can work out how to open it in MEP. You should only have to do this setup once.

Changing the codec worked and allows .avi files to be inserted by selecting the mpeg codec in settings.
When outputting the movie the program errored. Changing back to default settings cured this.
The FFDShow arrangement is to allow MEP to decode, or open, your AVIs. It should not (theoretically) affect any export you doand you shouldn't have to change the encoder (I assume you are talking about the codec settings on the Import/Export tab). As long as it all works for you though, that's the main thing.
