Hi

As you can see from the Backup options below there is a subtle difference in what is backed up.

Alt S includes the project file and all media files required.

Shift R only copies movie (MVD file) and all media files required - no project file

The difference being Alt R only requires you to open the project file whereas Shift R requires you to start a new project and import the MVD file.

Which you use depends on what you are aiming to do with the backup.

Thanks John for the quick response. Perhaps it's my limited knowledge of knowing what is included in a project file. Can you elaborate?

Hi

Both backup versions copy the video/image/audio objects that are on the timeline (source files), however there are subtle differences between the Project file (.MVP) and the Movie file (.MVD)

Alt S backup also copies the Project file, which contains all the project settings - those you see when you press the E key - the details of the video/image/audio objects used, their arrangement on the timeline and what effects, transitions etc that have been added, it also contains some settings of the program interface.

Shift R backup also copies or creates a Movie file which contains the details of the video/image/audio objects used, their arrangement on the timeline and what effects, transitions etc that have been added.

It does not contain any project settings or settings of the program interface

Guideline usage:

Alt S if you want move the project and source files to another computer or send to another person to continue editting with the same project settings.

Shift R if you want use the existing project timeline, in another, or new, project with different settings eg resolution, framerate TV region, or send it to another person to use in another, or new, project
