BAK Files

michaeljlea wrote on 3/1/2012, 4:03 PM

In which folder are the BAK files stored in Magix Music Maker MX Premium. In an older version (MMM12 deluxe) the files were stored in the same folder as my saved ongoing arrangements/projects.

I use MMM 16 Premium but I think same method you can apply in your case. Just a minor difference, in MMM 16 Premiem we click on "Y" key but in your case you should press "P" key I guess.

It will open Program settings click on Folders tab, here you can see all paths to your folders. If the folders are same as in MMM 16 then you could find your BAK backup files in any of these three;

1.Projects

2.Export

3.Recordings

If you remember the name of your file then you can search in above three folders easily, But as you said it should be where you save arrangements/projects normally. Also in MMM 16 Premium it save with my projects files.

Hope this answer will help you.

Thank you for your response nihon94, but unfortunately there are no bak files in the locations that you suggest.

A complete search of my C drive doesn't even find any !!!

It's not causing me a problem...as yet, because my projects are there, it's just the bak files that are missing.

I say missing, but maybe mmm17 doesn't do back-up files. ho hum...

John Lennon once said that life is what happens while your busy doing other things, but he also said that there were eight days in a week and that he was a walrus...so can we trust him?

Please confirm the settings for Backup. Open Program settings, under General look for back up settings as shown in the screen shot from MMM 16 Premium.

Thank you

My back-up settings are the same as the ones that you display in your screenshot, every 10 minutes.

Hi

Are you looking for the correct files?

This image shows my bak files in the same folder as the project files - note I use a second hard drive and the paths in MMM point to these locations.

John

Right, ok. I might have the wrong end of the stick here..and then proceding to beat about the bush with it.

Are BAK files created when I manually save a composition or does the program create it after 10 minutes (Which is set in my program settings). It's just that since starting this thread, BAK files have started to appear for some, but not all of my ongoing projects. The reason for this might be that I haven't had some compositions open long enough for the program to back it up.

I haven't had this program for long, so I have been 'flitting' around from song to song pretty rapidly just trying to find my way around.

So just to repeat the question, does the program automatically create BAK files for me?

If the answer is yes, then I should have waited longer before jumping in with this question and I fear that I have wasted time in our lives that we will never get back, and for that I sincerely apologise (lol).

Hi

Yes is the answer - after 10 minutes they should appear then be updated every 10 minutes.

However it is still better to regularly save your work - especially if it is a long piece - I use a sequential system of version number added at the end of the name of the project using the Save As to create copies.

There is no need for apolgies as it is an important topic which is often ignored and not understood properly.

Well I am a silly Billy. For years I have had Magix Music Maker12 deluxe and  now magix Music Maker mx premium, and I always believed that the BAK files were created when I manually saved projects, I had no idea that the program was doing it...you live and learn.

A quick thanks to johnebaker and nihon94.......
