Get the latest update in the software

emmrecs wrote on 8/18/2017, 3:52 AM

@izack

First, welcome to the Magix forums and my apologies that almost no-one has replied to your post.

As tonytoes writes, you do need to ensure that your version of MEP is fully up to date. If you go to Help>About, please tell us what that screen says is your version. You mention MEP17 as your product; if that is literally correct you are using a very old version of the program! It is more than likely to be not compatible with any recent updates to your Operating System. Which system is it? The recent Windows 10 Creators Update has been responsible for more than one problem with certain software!

So, if you can give us a lot more information about your computer and version of the software (this post will give you some idea of what to tell us) we may be able to offer more advice.

I purchased MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus 17 recently. Within two weeks of this purchase I received a notice that I needed to update it with the latest software, which I did.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. i7 intel core processor, 2.20 Ghz

Is there a later version than MMEPP17?  If so, and I downloaded the recent update what more should I be doing?  It is confusing that I  would not be running the latest version since it was advertised as the latest? Help appreciated.. Thanks

Hi again.

Please do what I wrote before: go to Help>About and tell us exactly which version of the program you have.

Hi,

MEP17 is very old. MEP 2017 is current.

Did you use any of the new, New Blue effects on the clips that have turned black?

Here is what I have:  Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus   Version 16.0.4.102     UG Code 8426 KA4 2001-2017

No, I did not use any of the New Blue effects on the clips.

emmrecs wrote on 8/19/2017, 9:38 AM

Thank you. Your latest post indicates you are running the latest version of MEP Plus.

Now, we need to find out more about the clips that are now black. Please download and install the free MediaInfo, point it at any one of those clips and post here what you see in the Text view. Also, can you confirm that these same clips were not black before the latest update to MEP?

Also, have there been any recent updates to your Windows version? I see you are running Win 7; I know the most recent major update to Win 10, the so-called Creators Update, has meant some software manufacturers have had to make changes to their software in order for it to fully run with Win 10. I wonder whether any such change could adversely affect users of an older OS?

Further to what Jeff said, do any of the black clips have effects on them? If so, which ones?

Hi

@izack, @emmrecs

The latest version of MEP 2017 is 16.0.4.119.

As tonytoes said, try updating to this version first.

Are you using proxy files?

Hi @johnebaker, I checked just before replying to izack, that his version agreed with mine, having done an update check!

Today, the update installed, so thanks for the heads-up.

Update:  many of the video clips have recently returned. Some are still missing however. I did not use any special effects, not using the proxy files for now. I did have a pop up during the MEPP installation process that told me to be able to finished the download I needed to uninstall something from Windows and then reinstall it afterwards which is what I did and so the videos might have gotten tripped up in that process.  For the ones that are still blank I got this information from MediaInfo  -for the first video clip and this is what it came up with:

Container and general information:

MPEG-4 (Quicktime) 230  MiB 12 s  246 ms

1 video stream: JPEG

Overall bit rate mode: variable

Overall bit rate 157 mb/s

Encoded date: UTC  2012 -09-18  19:15:44

Tagged Date: UTC 2012-09-18 15:53

Writing Library: Apple Quick Time

First Video Stream:

English, 157 Mb/s 1920*1080 (16:9), at 29.970 ( 29970/1000 ) FPS , JPEG

Hi again. Thanks for the update and for the MediaInfo detail.

Since this was for a file that is still blank can you also give us the same info for a file that is not blank. Comparing the two might offer some ideas of why some are still blank.

I'd be very surprised if the problem with the clips was caused by you having to uninstall another program in order to complete the MEP install. What program was it, by the way?

Hi

From the Media Info data:

. . . . Writing Library: Apple Quick Time . . .

Do you have either:

  1. Quick Time Essentials installed? If not you need it to open these files properly.

    or

  2. One of the all in one codec packs, eg K-Lite, installed? If so uninstall it, these packs can mess up the MEP standard installed codecs.

Since the other video clips are now working, I removed the blank video clips and put them back in and they are now working. I checked and I am running Apple Quick time 7. If someone has a direct link to Quick Time Essentials that would be great I've only seen it available through a  third party.. In the meantime Apple Quick Time has the latest version 7.7.9 for Windows and am wondering if that would be sufficient? I do not have K-lite installed.

johnebaker wrote on 8/24/2017, 2:41 PM

Hi

. . . . Apple Quick time 7 . . .

Quicktime Essentials is part of the Quicktime 7 installation, however you must do a custom installation and install this component only.

To do this:-

  1. Uninstall Quicktime 7 and restart the computer.

  2. Run the Quicktime installer again if you still have it, or download and run it.

  3. Select the Custom install option

  4. In the next window disable all the options except Quicktime Essentials.

  5. Complete the installation.
