Brand new install, can't export movie with error

AbbaTheHorse wrote on 11/17/2019, 11:50 AM

Hi

I'm a brand new user trying to export my movei as n MP4 and can't get past this error:

"An error has occurred during export with an external video codec. Please check export settings (resolution, framerate etc.) and changes if necessary. If problems persist, it is recommeneded to restore default settings."

The source file is an MP4 taken from my new DJI Mavic Mini, which shoots at 2.7/30fps. I've tried exporting as 4k and the correct framerate, hoping it might upscale the vide. I've also tried setting a custom resolution to mach the source video, but to no avail.

I can't even export to YouTube, and any other formats/resultions. In fact, I get the error messae no matter what options I try.

I've tried resetting the defaults (even though I haven't changed anything) but just get anyting to export.

Would anybody have any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you in advance,

Abba the Horse

@AbbaTheHorse

Welcome to the Magix forums.

First, please read the pinned post at the top of this forum page about the information we really need if we are to have any chance of helping you.

However 2 questions spring to mind when reading your post. What do you mean by "2.7/30 fps"? You also say you hope you can upscale the video. Not really possible with only MEP.

In addition to @emmrecs request can you also post a MediaInfo analysis of the Mavic Mini 2.7k 30fps video you are using - details are in the post Jeff linked to.

@AbbaTheHorse

I use a DJI Osmo Pocket a lot for my projects with no problems. Are your files in MGEP4 H264 or Mov. format?

If you have the choice, the MPEG files behave much better from DJI products in general but you can't really upscale the video. Even if you could it would look grainy and hideous unless you used some type of noise reduction, in which case you would have been better off leaving it as it was for resolution.

Hi, thanks for the responses.

Apologies for missing the prerequistites, I've updated my signature with my PC's specs.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro N Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.476), having trouble with Magix Movie Edit Pro version 19.0.1.23 (UDC2) UG code 8443 KA1.

I mistyped the resolution of the DJI Mavic Mini video, it should be 2.7k @ 30fps. I've attached a screenshot of the codec info for the video take directly off of the drone and have added the mediainfo below.

Thank you all again for your help, and also for the advice about upscaling.

Hi. What I would suggest is to use the 4K preset for 29.970fps but then change the size of the frame to match your video footage Width : 2 720 pixels Height : 1 530 pixels.

That should work.

Hi

Thanks for the information - from the video info and your PC specs.

You are missing at least one patch for MEP current version is 19.0.1.31.

. . . . M:\ServerFolders . . . .

Is this a local external server, NAS box or a USB hard drive?

Try the export again and note the time, see image below, at which the error occurs, then look at that region of the timeline for any effects, transitions, titles etc which may be causing the problem.

Hi all

Thanks again for your help.

I tried creating a new project and selected the 4K preset for 29.970fps and changed the resolution as @CubeAce suggested, however the video still fails to export with the same error as before.

@johnebaker - That's a drive on my home server where I store my media. The screenshot you have attached is new to me, in that I have never seen it. The error message I get is shown as soon as I click OK on the MPEG-4 export dialog, so I don't think I'm getting that far.

I think it may be time for me to move on and find alternative software that works out the box, although that's a shame.

Thank you all again, it's very much appreciated.

Hi

. . . . The screenshot you have attached is new to me, in that I have never seen it. . . .

That is the export dialog you get after clicking OK on the MPEG-4 export dialog.

. . . . The error message I get is shown as soon as I click OK on the MPEG-4 export dialog, so I don't think I'm getting that far. . . . .

That is why you are not seeing the dialog above.

Was this also created/saved/exported to the M: drive?

If so then that could be the issue, try creating a small project using media on your c: drive and export that to the C: drive - if that exports OK then the issue is with the M: drive - possibly a file permissions issue, eg although you can write to the M: drive MEP cannot.

Can you also post a screen shot of MEP's program file settings Folder tab - you do not need to use a third party website - click the blue upload button above, left of the smiley button.

Hi Ray

Not sure what you meant here? MEP will up / down scale anything on the timeline to match the Project and export frame size (aka resolution) specified. Of course it can not interpolate detail that does not exist so it is not actually going to increase the sharpness as you suggest but you could sharpen the lower 2.7k res. footage to help if mixing it with 4k footage, prior to export at 4K.

@Scenestealer

Hi Peter.

What I meant was that resolution is not increased. Frame size certainly but not quality. My preference would always be to downscale 4K to 2.7K for quality matching. Or in my case for past efforts to go 2.7K to 1080p.
