Camcorder not recognized

Hello,

I am using Movie Edit Pro 2014 in one laptop with iEEE1394 (4pin connection) and Windows Vista and in the other one with same connection but Windows 7. I have two camcorders Sony DCR-HC40 and Panasonic NV-DS60 (both with mini DV tapes) and none of these cameras is being recognized by Movie Edit Pro now but I used them before at least with the laptop running Windows Vista.

Has anyone faced this problem before? What was the solution? Why Movie edit Pro is not allowing me to access the recording window even if no camera is recognized?

Please, I need some urgent help since I have dozens of mini DV tapes that I would like continue editing.

Check that the Firewire ports have 32 bit drivers installed.

Also see this tutorial - it is on Dropbox, this was originally in the Tutorial section of the forum, although it refers to Windows 7 it is still valid for Windows 10.

Thank you very much John. It worked. I changed the Driver to the Legacy one and I am already editing the tapes. Great help when I almost throwing the towel. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

I was able to make the Panasonic work but then it began to break my tapes, so I tried to use the Sony DCR-HC40 and it's not still recognized by the computer. When I connect it, it's not detected at all.

Hi.

If the Panasonic is still seen and recognised by your computer, but the Sony isn't, I rather fear there may be a problem with your Sony camcorder. Specifically, I suspect its firewire port may be non-functioning.

I say this because I have recently experienced exactly this problem, using my wife's Canon camcorder. MEP/VPX would "see" it but import of DV tapes was not possible, no picture, no sound, no control of the camera from my computer. Hence I bought a 2nd hand Canon camcorder, cheap but fully working, on ebay, solely for the purpose of transferring DV tapes to my computer. The original camera still functions perfectly when recording and I use the "newer" one for transfers.

do you mean that literally? The tape (presumably not the cassette) actually broke whilst it was playing in the camcorder? Do you have any specialist camera/camcorder repair companies anywhere near to where you live? Might it be possible to have them look at the camera and see if it can be (economically) repaired?

Hi Jeff,

thank ni you for your quick answer. I agree with you that is probably a problem with the FireWire port.

I will search for a Panasonic repair dealer and see if they can fix the problem since the camera is not breaking literally the tape but it's destroying the tape since it gets stuck in one side so the tape starts accumulating and folding.

My problems do not finish here since I bought a third camera (used) that arrived and unfortunately is NSTC only and my tapes were recorded in PAL so the miniDV tape is not recognized. I do not know if there is a solution for this problem or I need to return it, if possible.

Hi.

I suggest you try and return it as quickly as possible! It is possible to convert NTSC > PAL once the footage is in your computer but not unless it is.

Hope you're able to find a repairer for your Panasonic.
