can I restore my lost MMEP Project File?

elliot-w wrote on 1/1/2018, 2:05 AM

is there anyway to bring up the restore function in magix movie edit pro when you clicked off of it? My computer crashed and I didn't click the restore button on a project and now I can't figure out how to restore it, it has missing files because it crashed. how do I fix this?

You've made it a bit harder for us to give you a confident answer by not telling us what version of MEP you're using. But I've illustrated what should be a similar approach across all versions. This does, of course, depend on your having ensured that the setting to make automatic backups has not been switched off.

the BAK files were effected by the crash as well as the regular project files I know this because I tried the method you gave me =(. I'm on MEP 16

Without more details it’s a matter of guesswork! (Did you not see the request at the top of the page?)

Are you saying you did not enable the automatic backup facility? Or that you did, but the crash was so extreme that it deleted or corrupted all the backups? Are there no ‘normal’ backups of the MEP backups, perhaps on another drive, made by you or in the background by your (unnamed) OS? To be sure of that, have you searched your PC for *MV_ files where * is all or part of your project name?

Do you really mean 2016, or is your version indeed the very old MEP 16? Help > About will tell you.

here let me explain it crashed while saving and when I reloaded the project, some of the video files, picutres, text and, audio files were gone it said they were in the right folder but magix would read them as missing and I meant I was on the 2016 version

Hi Elliott,

Can you take a screen shot to upload of your backup file folder please.

Roger

You still haven’t answered my questions about the project backup files.

I’m assuming you mean that you get the message reporting that files are missing. In that dialog, did you then point MEP to the folder where the files are?

yes thank you that is what I meant (sorry I wasn't specific enough) and I don't know how to point MEP to the right folders

This message has appeared because MEP cannot find a file in your project.

It tells you what to do.

One possibilty is that it has been moved, deliberately or accidentally. If you really have no idea where it might now be, search your entire PC for it, including any/all backups (about which you still haven't replied), using whatever method you prefer. Whatever Windows OS version you have (you still haven't told us), all have a Search tool, for example.

If you find the 'missing' file then click 'Folder' and specify (or navigate to) that location and select the file. MEP will then load it, and any other missing files in that folder.

If you cannot find it anywhere on your PC and you have no image or other backup to try, then you must conclude it's been permanently deleted. The price of having no backup regime!

Hi Elliot,

Do you actually have MEP set up to automatically save backups every xxx minutes? If not, then there won't be any backups to refer to. If you do have autosave set, then there could be a couple of possibilities that may help.

Are you using Windows 10 and is it up to date, or an earlier version of Windows?

Roger,

I asked the same question, with screenshot, three days ago.

terrypin I will try the method you gave me later and let you know if it worked =)!

I had a very similar problem a few minutes ago. I am working on a complex edit with three 4K video streams and two audio streams. Suddenly at the end of an edit, a panel appeared saying that there was an error and the programme was restarting. It restarted with the normal opening screen, but when I went into my project folder, all the .bak files had disappeared even though they are set to autosave every 10 minutes.

Fortunately I also manually save after every few edits so little was lost. I checked the system folder for the Magix backup files as a precaution and they were all there. I have to assume that this could be a bug of some sort, maybe only showing itself when Ram memory is being heavily used.

can you explain to me in detail how you fixed it? because I'm not sure how to check the system folder I don't know where to find it

Firstly can you confirm that you had set the programme to autosave every xxx minutes before you started editing your project.

I believe it was on the default for that, it saves but I don't know how many minuets.
