I bought a sony fx1 and i want to edit the video i took. I have a pannacle studio moviebox with firewire. Can magix movie 2013 plus read the video from that?
I see the Sony has firewire output so I assume you are using the USB to connect to your PC?
Theoretically, yes this should work. But, on another video forum I visit I've seen Firewire to USB "connectors" described as "snake-oil"! IOW, they promise much but deliver nothing!
What you need to do, if possible, assuming you have no Firewire port on your computer, is to fit a Firewire PCI or PCIe card inside your computer and then use a Firewire to Firewire cable to transfer your video footage to MEP.
If you're using a laptop I think others may need to offer advice on sucessful transfer.
Firewire (iLink) and USB are two entirely different mthods of transferring data between devices.
Firewire sends video as a continuous stream of data and any device which offers to convert this to USB has to be able to store this data packetize it and then send it as packets of data over USB.
AFAIK there is no device which can do this.
Video can be transferred over USB to the computer however this is dependant on the camera supporting this method. Assuming the camera is the HDR-FX1 then AFAICS it does not support transfer over USB.
If your laptop has a PCMCIA slot then you can get a Firewire adapter for it.
