Can manual scrolling be speeded up?

Kami_1 wrote on 11/11/2017, 6:15 PM

(latest MEP Premium; Win 7 Pro 64 bit)

I often need to move just few frames backward, maybe a 1-2 seconds (occasionally forward). I scroll with the arrow keys, which is incredibly sloooow, esp. when I have added frames with slow motion. Is there any way the manual scrolling can be speeded up? Thanks.

Hi Kami.

Have you tried pressing and holding the Ctrl key with the appropriate arrow key, which speeds up scrolling (about x3 IIRC)? Pressing and holding Shift makes the scroll even faster (usually far too fast to easily find a specific frame).

That works, thanks. Have to get used to using both hands. 🙃 I agree that Shift arrow is way too fast.

I've been using MEP for over 10 years, yet I still learn things about it. Thanks again. Kami

Hi Kami.

Have to get used to using both hands.

But the Ctrl key on the right hand side of the keyboard also works, so only one hand, two fingers, needed. Or does a US keyboard not have that second Crtl key on the right?

Hi Kami

If you prefer mouse control, there is also the Jog/shuttle control in the preview monitor - you may need to turn this on as shown below

I was wondering what happened to that control. Which menu is that screenshot from? I don't see it on any of my menu lists.

Hi Kami,

It's under the hamburger menu, upper left, of the preview monitor. The preview window has to be wide enough to see all of the buttons.

Hi

I use the jog wheel a lot to find frames/edit points precisely. Once you have clicked on it and dragged you can use the mouse wheel to continue scrolling.

I assume the jog wheel is mouse controlled only. Once I'm using the keyboard, I find it quicker to stay with it. I appreciate MEP's use of lots of keyboard controls. The job wheel is a good extra.

I appreciate what you are saying Kami but I don't think there is anything else that rock and rolls over a series of frames to easily isolate a subtle change..... in Motion for instance. Like say when you are cutting one or two jerky frames out of your bird tracking shots prior to stabilising.

Scenestealer .... Unfortunately, I have many "jerky" frames. I manage. 🙂

Thanks.

Kami....I would pursue your idea of getting Mercalli V4 then as it is a big improvement to V2. It has a dynamic zoom that constantly varies at a user adjustable rate so that the jumpy frames are tailor zoomed only as much as each one needs ie. The frames with bigger movement are zoomed more and the stiller ones less. It has saved some very average footage for me🙂.

Thanks, Scenestealer. But I still need to know how much future annual updates will be, that is, how much of a discount. That's expensive software.
