Can not reinstall NewBlue plugins

Eaglezone wrote on 2/7/2019, 10:24 AM

I bought Movie Edit Pro 2016 which came with NewBlue Action Cam addon, later upgraded to 2017 which came with NewBlue Titler Pro Express. They installed fine at the time, I still have the installers and serial numbers now...

However, when I try to install them with the current version of Move Edit Pro, they fail as they both say it's the wrong version. One wanting 2016, the other 2017. Yet, obviously, it is the same software! I have both plugins running on my old PC, but I'm trying to install them on my new laptop.

ALSO, probably more important, I am assuming I can never install them again after my old PC is replaced, so will lose them altogether at that point? Is there some other way of porting them over to the latest version of MEP? Or is it intended to be this way, so you can only really have the plugins temporarily? I mean, you could technically have them forever if you never replace your PC, or just update the hardware, but leave everything installed as it is...

Hi.

I think your only solution is to install, even temporarily, the two older versions of MEP on your new computer and then install the NB effects packages. Once they are safely installed to the older versions they should then also be available to later versions on the same computer. and you should, if you wish, be able to uninstall those older versions but keep the NB effects. (I have quite a selection of NB and other effects, gathered from various versions of MEP and VPX over the years and all, or at least most, still work in the latest versions of both, I think.)

Thanks for the reply,

I think you are probably right and that is also a great tip for anyone else in the same position... Reinstall the older versions temporarily... So, always a good idea to keep original installers, never know if you will need them again(!)

I haven't resorted to that method just yet, as, well...I don't want to mess with my fully functioning current version. Shouldn't be an issue I know, but have had issues with crashes etc in the past which are all gone now... Not sure if the older versions will install something that messes up the config somehow. So, currently, I am having to rely on the old PC if I need to use those specific effects, which is not ideal obviously.

I may try the reinstall(s) eventually, although I did attempt to move over the program files and common plugin folders etc with the NewBlue effects in them, see if that would work... It allowed the latest MEP to identify them and list the plugins under effects, but then when selected they didn't launch properly. Must be some bits and pieces installed elsewhere, like the registry or whatever.

NewBlue's website does have downloads available for certain other plugins which I got with Magix, like Colorfast etc, but not the ones I mentioned earlier (it does still list them in my account, but says no links available.) But yeah, at least some of their effects will be viable to keep and reinstall in future without issue.

I may contact NewBlue directly and see if they can do anything, but probably a long shot, guess they'd already offer installers in my account if they had any. Worth a try I suppose, will then know for sure it's "out-of-date full reinstall" or nothing.

Hi,

You will probably have to reinstall as the addons are somehow linked to that particular version. I went through the same process just to get all of my addons that came with prior versions.

If you find some other way, please let us know.
