Can't open project in progress

csogkal wrote on 4/12/2020, 9:57 AM

Sorry for what may be a repeat question, I searched but am probably asking incorrectly. I've been working on editing videos and have saved it. When I try to open it to work on it again I get the error message:

I am saving it to a specific location as whatever MEP extension it defaults to is what it is. I see the file when I go to load it.

I apologize for asking what's probably a really novice question and appreciate any help. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I think that specific .mvp project file may be corrupted, hence, it cannot be read.

I notice you have another file of the same name, saved about two minutes earlier. Does that open correctly? If so, continue your work in this file but, in order to prevent a similar occurrence again, when you are ready to next save the project, save it under a (slightly) different name. You will then always be able to revert to this "file that works" if any additional corruption happens.

Do you have the option turned on to "Save automatically" as you are working? It is in Program Settings (shortcut Y)>System. As default, it creates a back-up every 10 minutes. Check your hard drive for .BAK files.

BUT, big no-no!  I notice you are saving your .mvp project files to the Desktop! That is a recipe for potential disaster! The desktop should never be used as a file storage area, except for "short-term emergencies". Windows Updates etc. can, and do, enforce changes to the desktop. That location is most definitely NOT the MEP default for any folder storage area; the default actually is: C:\Users\<username>\Documents\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium. You woul do well to revert to that. Better still, perhaps, create a dedicated folder somewhere on your hard drive to save your project files.

Open the Program Settings, shortcut Y, Folder tab, Projects. It probably reads:

C:\Users\user_name\Documents\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\Projects

That is where you should be saving your projects to by default, or, as Jeff mentioned, somewhere else on your hard drives that is not part of the system files or the desktop.

Just so that you know, when you "import" files into MEP, they are not really in the project. The project remembers where they are and uses them, so they always have to remain on your system in the same location or the project will not be able to find them.

Make sure you have not chosen any file compression methods on your C: drive the any of the folders on the C: rive or MEP cannot read the project files. Hence that is why I think you are getting the 'Cannot be read' warning and the 'Make sure your drive is not full or write protected' message.

Also Check how you have set up MEP for projects and Exports.

Hi

To modify @emmrecs comment

. . . . Better still, perhaps, create a dedicated folder somewhere on your hard drive to save your project files. . . . .

If you have only one hard drive then the folder must be in the Documents folder - anywhere else will cause issues with permissions and the potential for loss of data.

If you have a second hard drive then move the folder to that drive.
